Fantastic!

The only question I have is how much postage and handling will cost....

Unbelivable! I bet it's going to the US. And looks like no postage or handling charges will be added since the Russians are willing to re-engine it and fly it to the customer.

Awesome!!!

Looks like it´s quite easy to bid - just bid 10,000,000, as long as the reserve isn´t met, nobody can force you to pay up...

I'll chip in!

The only problem is this: if we all chipped in to buy it, in what livery would we paint it. I personally vote for Southwest's "Lone Star One" livery.

I wonder what the reserve price is.

I think it's time for John Travolta to buy another aircraft...  Nuts

Hmm, with 7529 registered users that would be 1328.20 $ per user (tough luck for those with multiple user names  Laugh out loud.
But then there´s the reserve price...  Crying

Don't try to guess on the reserve price. Sometimes if you bid the opening amount it can be the reserve price. I've seen it a few times.

I'd like to buy it and do touch and gos at SNA, and high-speed flybys around Orange Co.

WOW! Is that legal to even fly, because no airlines ever got one. Do you think this is a joke, the description was too vague to be real.

I wonder how much trouble I'd get in if I bid on it, had them deliver it, and then said, "Oops, sorry, I don't have the money."

That's not too surprising. The former Eastern block has been selling Mig-21's even. I
heard you can buy one for around $50,000. They come cheap due to Soviet style
lean manufacturing and design. No fancy avionics, etc....and no armament of course.

As for ebay, I think they had a Saab jet fighter on sale once, for $40,000 I believe.

Wow! WHAT A BARGAIN!!! Only 434 hrs clocked. That's like factory new!

I really wonder who's gonna buy the aircraft. And what about documents, maintenance support, etc...

It would be great if some leisure company or non profit aviation enthusiasts company (like with B-17 Sally B) bought the aircraft and would take it to all major airshows worldwide.

Soku39:

A reserve price is a price set by the seller. This is the minimum price he wants to have for the item. If it has not been reached at the end of the auction, then he doesn't have to sell, even if there have been bids. Why not make the start price of the auction the minimum price, you may ask. Well, by setting a low start price, you will get more bidders interested.

Best regards,
GR.

Does this possibly have something to do with Tupolevs recent death?
Unresolved finance problems...
Did he have a personal TU-144 he never used, possibly kept one after its failure?

Im only guessing here.

With 3 bids and ebay cancelled the auction.

The item you requested (588454510) (TU 144) is invalid or no longer in our database. Please check the number and try again. If this message persists, the item has expired and is no longer available.

HAHA, I believe it's fake.

I bet Tupolev is selling it to pay the workers or pay some bills.

Very interesting indeed. Perhaps all of us a.net users could pitch in, buy it and have it flown as a promotional vehicle both for the website and for any sponsors who are willing to take their campaigns soaring to the stratosphere.

The sad thing is, such is the state of Russian aviation that such measures have become necessary. That plane should actually be kept in Russia and flown to airshows and on May Day as a part of the country's proud aviation heritage. Notwithstanding its tragic accidents, the fact that the USSR actually issued an SST is very significant.
