Becoming A Pilot In Australia

Sat May 12, 2001 6:40 pm

Hello everyone!

I am trying to help my friend! He is an experienced Tu-154 captain currently living in Australia. One of his dreams is to work for an Australian airline as a pilot!

Can you please tell me, is it possible for him to retrain in Australia to fly Boeing or an Airbus aircraft or does he have to go some where else?

Do Qantas or Ansett offer such retraining?

If such oppertunities exist what are the best ways to approach them?

If you know anything that can help can you please make a comment! He is a great pilot and I really want to see him fly!

I appriciate your help!

Thank you!

Go to Qantas web site and check it out.

It has all the details you need, or ring them up.

Good luck!!!

No Australian airline requires pilots to know how to operate boeing or airbus. Experiance on Tupolev counts too. Only thing is to get permision to work in Australia, and taking tests to get australian licences.

But can he learn how to operate a Boeing or an Airbus in Australia, or would he be send overseas?

Thanks.

Hi,

I think he will have to get his australian commercial license and then get hired by a airline who operate such planes.I'm sure there are training school for Airbus or Boeing in Australia.

Good luck

Qantas does 99% of conversion training in Sydney or Melbourne, only the occasional course goes to Seattle (or soon Toulouse) for training.
