My first widebidy flight was in 1992 on an AA DC10 KORD-EGLL. Nice flight. I fell in love with the DC10 at that time.

It was an Alitalia 747-100 back in the spring of 1972 from JFK to FCO. 29 years later, this coming Wednesday, I return to Rome via an Alitalia 747-200. Ahhhh- the progress we've made in 29 years!

I'm going to last ride L-1011 next weekend 20th May ATL-ORD. I'm flying on DL B767-300 ER or 300 from ORD-ATL on 19th May. This will be my first time series 300 type. I have flown 767-200 several times. I will be exciting ride L-1011 haven't flying since 10 years on L-1011! I will tell you my trip report coming up.

In 1975, Philippine Airlines DC10-30 MNL-HNL-SFO. Spanking brand new plane back then... and a wonderful ride even if the aircraft was crowded.

In 1988, I flew IAH-CDG on an Air France 747-200. I was only 3 at the time. My second widebody flight occured 3 hours after my first one ended. I flew ORY-MPL. Was in a high-density 3-3-3 configuration.

Mine was Olympic Airways A300-600R, in Aug. 1992. The aircraft was brand new: had only been flying several ATH-BCN for the Olympic Games (25th July-12th August) and was her first commercial flight.
This was a "regional" flight, though. (2 1/2 hours). After some other several flights, always BCN-ATH-BCN, OAL A300B4s (never flown the -600R again...), my first widebody LONG HAUL was BCN-ATL on Delta L-1011. In the way back to BCN, Aug 1st 1995, we were... 39 pax!!!!

An AA DC-10-10 from LAX to IAD in 1978. It was my first flight ever. Second widebody was on an AA 747-100 from JFK to LAX, about two weeks later.

1985- El-Al 767-200 from TLV to FRA. It really sucked as I had to sit in the middle seat of the middle section Angry I was five years old at the time and was (still am) a window-seat freak, so needless to say it was one of the worst flights of my life. Most of the other widebody flights to date were really good though  Smile

My 1st widebody flight:

Back in 1972, BOAC 747-136 G-AWNI LHR-NBO-JNB, I too was 10 years old, and I got a trip to the flight deck whilst at FL 370 over Africa. I flew the return trip on the same a/c a couple of weeks later, and again on the same a/c some years later with TWA as N17125 LAX-LHR.

"WNI" was never painted in full BAW c/s before being sold to TWA back in 1981, only in a hybrid BOAC/BAW c/s, still some 7 years after the BEA/BOAC merger !!
I believe Tower Air damaged this a/c beyond repair at JFK a few more years later.

My first wide body flight was a British Airways 747-100 or 200, I forget, back in the mid 80's. I was going from London Gatwick nonstop to PIT. It was excellent. I wish some carrier would bring the 747 back to PIT!

When I was 4 I apparently flew on a TWA 767 from LGA to STL. However, the first flight I remember was on a TWA L1011 from JFK to STL in 1991.

My first widebody flight was also my first airplane flight. In November of 1990 I flew from ATL to SLC on an L-1011. Sat in coach, and had the entire middle row to myself (my parents were seated a row in front of me). I have to admit that I was a little scared when we took off (my stepfather claims I was white as a ghost and had a death grip on the armrests), but that was one of the few times I was ever nervous when flying. The last widebody that I've flown on was on an MD-11 from PDX to ATL. I haven't flown in about six months, and am getting anxious to fly again. I really miss my non-rev benefits  Sad.

My first was a little strange being a Delta 763 charter flight from BDL-LEX (Lexington, Kentucky) for a NCAA basketball tournament game for University of Connecticut. A few months later I took the same aircraft only on LOT from EWR-WAW.

I see I'm not the only member of the "over-the-hill gang" in this forum. Having traveled on DC-8s, 707s, and a CV990 for 7 years, my first widebody flight was truly memorable. This was back, way back, in 1971, on a Pan Am 747-121, Clipper Derby, from JFK to AMS (with continuing service onto BRU).

Because the Pan Am terminal could accommodate only 707s and smaller craft at the time (the DC-8-30s were sold off back in 1968), we had to take a bus out to the aircraft. I still remember seeing the tail of the 747 literally towering above us, all lit up against the night sky. The bus pulled up to the no. 2 exit, which we had to reach by a double air stair. I was simply awed by the sheer size of the plane, which was more than twice the size of anything I had ever flown (and I had flown on the biggest of the big, all the way up to the mighty DC-8-63). Once inside, I couldn't believe the width of the fuselage; the windows on the other side seemed a mile away. Furthermore, the enclosed bins and the gleaming white interior with the occasional dark wood panellng (this *was* the early '70s, after all).

The sound of the high-bypass engines, climbing the circular stairway to the upper-level lounge, and the nine-abreast seating were all novelties to me then, all things taken for granted in an age where the notion of a TV screen for every passenger is no longer a thing of science fiction.

Mine was on 10/17/72, from TPA-MIA to connect with an Eastern Electra to Nassau. It was NA 44, a National Airlines DC-10-10, N63NA. It had eight-abreast seating in coach in bright green, orange, and yellow. I flew on this same aircraft this past Dec. 27, as N148AA of Hawaiian Airlines. Gone was the colorful eight-abreast interior. Instead there was a tight-pitched nine-abreast interior of blue-violet seats.

My first widebody flight was when I was 8 years old, in March 1990 from Montreal to Tampa on an Air Canada 767-200, but since I was only 8, I am not totally sure of this because I have been told it could have been and L1011. I know for sure however that on my return home I was on an Air Canada 747-200 from Tampa to Toronto which at the time I thought was awsome!!!

My first flights was when i was an infant, but i remember the second, I just turn four. I can distincly remember traveling during the night with my mom on one side and my dad on the other... watching the biggest music sensation in Yugoslavia at the time - Lepa Brena, on bigsreen in a DC-10. It was a 2-5-2 configuration, and we were sitting in front row of the middle column...

JAT DC-10-30
BEG - YMX,
YU-A??

Its amazing how i could remember the detail. I could even remember one of the songs Brena sang! For all you Yugos, it was "Njezna Zena"  Smile

If A300-600 is considered to be a wide body , so my first flight was on an A300-600 of Egypt Air on BEY-CAI route.
But the real widebody was an Olympic's A340-300. I love this aircraft.
