Airlines In Kuwait

Sun May 13, 2001 3:39 am

hi all,
in the not too distant past, airlines such as Air France, Alitalia, Swissair, and Philippine Airlines have stopped operations to Kuwait, when i know for a fact that Kuwait was a successful destination for all of these carriers. i have flown with SR and AF to and from KWI many times and the aircraft was always at least 50% full. as for PR, there are thousands of Philippino workers in Kuwait, aand surely Kuwait must have been a destination that was worth serving. PR used to have daily flights and so did SR. the AF flights were 5x weekly. AZ was either a 4 or 5x weekly flight. so when these carriers stopped serving KWI, i thought that it was a bit strange. if anyone has any info, it would be much appreciate it.

A load factor of 50% is not that great. It might be a reason to cancel a route.

Phillipine Airlines cancelled flights to Dubai as well but it wasn't because the route was a loser, but because they went bankrupt and cancelled all of their long haul destinations...but now they're gradually rebuilding their route network...you never know you might see them back in kuwait, but not in Dubai because they codeshare with EK.

Ahlan KWI.........
Well the thing with Kuwait is that there are a limited number of pax primarily because of the small Q80 population. With all those airlines serving Kuwait......for some of them to quit was only inevitable. Also the emergence of a regional HUB like DXB makes the airlines focus more towards that ....As for now BA,KLM,Olympic and LH are serving Kuwait and they are doing well.Specially BA as there is alot of traffic to UK and people flying to USA from Q8 also fly BA alot ... many of my Q80 friends fly BA home when college gets off here in Boston. I once read somewhere that BA might quit Kuwait but i find that very difficult to believe ........ currently its a daily 777 service.

KHI747 I also read in the Khaleej times some years ago that airlines are to going to focus on just one Hub in the Gulf in the future and the competition is between Bahrain, Abu Dhabi and Dubai, infact Bahrain has also recently adopted an open skies policy and is already attracting new carriers and some others that quit the state years back Smile

Both Kuwait Airways and SriLankan have increased their flights to 4 per week KU using AB6 and A310 and UL using their new A330-200s. It seems Kuwait-Colombo route is profitable for both KU and UL mainly due to worker traffic.

Doesn't Srilankan fly from Kuwait to Beirut? Can it carry pax on this sector?
And what about the Kuwait Airways service to India (I think) via Beirut with the A3403?
Thanks.

Hisham.

Kifak Hisham?

As far as I know, Sri Lankan flies non stop to Beirut on Tuesdays with an A340.
On Sunday the A330 is used and it makes a stopover in Kuwait.

Ahlan Kevin. Thanks for the info.

Airmale, you're right but I'm sure I read it somewhere. And I've seen the 340 myself several times in BEY. It wasn't flying KWI-BEY-KWI (this route was flown with the A300). I just checked on the Kuwait Airways site, it seems all The India flights are non-stop.

So anybody knows where was Kuwait Airways flying the A340 from Beirut?

Hisham.
