NEWS: Free Flying With Ryanair!

Tue May 15, 2001 4:15 pm

The Irish airline Ryanair, which has its second hub at Charleroi (near Brussels), has announced that it will reservate a limited number of FREE tickets on several European routes. The airline think it can compensate the free tickets by the inflight sale of drinks and audio headphones.

Source: Newspaper Brabants Dagblad, 15 May 2001.

Ryanair is booming in Belgium and has become a strong competitor of Sabena and Virgin Express.

FR has an IFE system.? The mind boggles at the possible inflight price increases.

Its a gimmick!.....FR are known to be just a little bit
economical with the truth.  Sad

There is another thread on this from a couple of days ago.
I don't think it is a gimmick.. They already offer flights at as little as £4 each way - to reduce this to nothing is not impossible.
Ryanair are to introduce IFE systems and charge passengers for using them, this will include live TV and PPV events.

They have actually already offered free flights. It was one of those 24hr specials or something on all off-peak flights.

Of course you pay the tax, which is often quite hefty in Europe

They already offer fares from as low as 1 Pound.
But they'll charge you an additonal 30 pounds or somethign as tax.
So that's your FREE flight.
No big deal IMHO.

Correct, but airlines don't keep the tax, they just collect it.
