Fantasy Livery: American

Fri May 18, 2001 7:50 am

Hello,

Another livery design excercise for your viewing pleasure, this time, American, though only due to the number of requests - the current livery is a classic.

Enjoy,

I absolutely love all the designs that you have on your site. They are very creative and at the same time retained all the original ideas associated with the airline. Well done.

Very nice as always Puck. Hey thanks for considering my idea. But I'll bet you put my name on there in case people didn't like it, you could blame it on me!  Laugh out loud Just kidding of course.

We all are enjoying your work. Thanks again.

Very well done. I loooove the Iberia livary, the whole graphic identity too. It is great! As far as American is concerned, I like the first one with the more traditional eagle. The overly stylized one on the modern livary is too static for me.

BTW, I am was a graphic designer for many years and, I believe, I have a good eye. Your stuff is good.

I kinda like the American livery the way it is. Thoght I REALLY like the "AA" 's on the engines... that'd look spectacular.

Neat!  Smile
However, I like the current American Airlines livery better.
How about using those designs for Conntenintal Airlines?
They can use a face lift.

Those are great! I agree, you should make a Continental Livery. Makbe a nwe Southwest one, change the colors completely...they are so ugly. I really like the United one on your site. Looks good!

I can safely say--every livery on that site is better than the current one. Keep up the excellent work.

I really like the air india scheme. The UAL is superb but the 3rd pain schem of AA kicks ass.

Correct me if I am wrong folks, but I believe they are all bare metal. Note the reflective properties on the bottom of the fuselage.

Suggestion

Fri May 18, 2001 11:27 am

I have a suggestion, for a A380 we'll never see. It would be a Southwest Airlines A380...

Thanks for the comments!

Boeing_nut, if my intent was to blame you for the third design (which it wasn't!), it seems the most popular for now - so it would have backfired...

And Delta767-400 - all those American designs are supposed to be largely bare metal, it was the best I could figure out to do in Illustrator. Anyone have any tips for me?

Puck,

I'm very impressed with some of your fantasy liveries!  Smile

How come airlines like BD and WN can't come up with liveries as good as your fantasy suggestions?  Insane

By the way, the third AA fantasy livery actually looks great--give it an all-silver fuselage and suggest it to AA management.  Big thumbs up

You need Adobe Illustrator 9.0 as well as Photoshop. I don't know but I also think you need Quark Xpress

You need either Adobe Illustrator or Aldus Freehand for illustrations like this. I prefer Freehand, but Illustrator works better if you want to incorporate existing logos.

Puck,

Since the third design has become so popular, I believe I will go ahead and take full credit for the design!  Smile/happy/getting dizzy LOL!!!

Hey, not to add to your workload, but how do you think your tail design on the first design would look on the third fuselage design? Hmmmm. Could be very nice! What do the rest of you think?

Once again, excellent work!

Good work!

How's this for an idea:

- Extend the blue part of the cheatline upward to cover the top of the fuselage.

- Extend the red part of the cheatline downward to cover the bottom of the fuselage.

- Keep the current logo on the tail, but on a white background instead of silver to maximize the contrast.

- Adopt a classy-looking font along the lines of what BA has done. Perhaps a Book Antiqua font with small caps in place of the current Arial font.

I don't think too highly of the bottom one, and I hate the second one's tail. I love the tail on the first one, but the fuselage, well, to be honest, sucks. Needs more. Maybe a merger between the first and second with more on the fuselage would help, keeping the first tail.

I greatly enjoy your fine work. I would love to do the same as a hobby. I would like to know though. What program is used to design these liveries, I think it's illustrator. Does it have the basic type of airplaena and you design on it or do you have to start from scratch.
I dont get it. I would love to design some. I have great ideas as I'm about to study graphic design.....

Fantasy Livery: Howto

Sat May 19, 2001 2:11 am

I use Illustrator (9.0, but older versions work fine), and start with the downloadable vectorial drawings from Airbus's website, for the most part. They're quite flat, so add some gradient shading to simulate shadows and you're off - your imagination is the limit. Then I export them as JPGs, usually tweaking a bit in Photoshop, but that's optional. The 777 base came out of a technical PDF document I found on Boeing's website, and required retracing - fairly laborious. But if you don't mind sticking to Airbus it's easy.

If you feel like spending money www.onemileup.com appears to sell many vectorial drawings, but others on this forum haven't liked them, though I've never tried.

Happy painting,
puck

Some of his work are really good.
He also picked some of the airline schemes that really could need a facelift.

I really liked Jals, the buttom AA, Aerilineas Argentinias and Alitalia's.

They are all fresh and filled with new ideas.

Awesome, you should submit them to the carriers. If they had a clue you would be a rich man.

Fantastic work Puck!  Big thumbs up

Although I didn't really like any of the new designs for American, I absolutely fell in love with Aerolineas Argentinas and the second Iberia color scheme... the United one is a great look too, much better than the current scheme... but I absolutely LOVE the second Iberia scheme and the Aerolineas Argentinas scheme... honestly ship them off to their respective airlines NOW!!! I think they're totally awesome!

I love the first one. It kind of has that retro theme.

I think you should do one for Northwest Airlines and Canada 3000. They need a make over!!

Keep up the good work! I especially like the United one!

Nice job Puck. I would vote on the first American livery, though the front resembles the "old school BA" somewhat. I really had fun on the unlikely A380s. Boy I wish we could see a TW A380- stunning. Same with Pan Am. And for the Alitalia, I prefer the white belly. Thank you for a delightful post.
