New BA 742 Livery

Fri May 18, 2001 10:39 am

Yes this has been discussed before, anyway I would like to know how many BA 742s are in the new livery?( I will be flying BOS-LHR, LHR-BOS)

Also, what does the cabin look like? I know there are no PTVs, but does it look like this?:

I have been told that only one 747-200 has been painted in the new livery and the inside cabin does look like the pic you have but no longer the terrible multi coloured headrests but just blue and red. No PTVs either.

Only G-BDXB has been repainted into the Union Flag as Aussiestu notes. None of the others will be as they're being retired.

I was in Boston a few weeks ago, and saw a BA B742 in Cheslea Rose c/s.

I flew out from BOS on the same day, (March, 2001) B742, old c/s, seats as above, but no PTV's.

G-BDXB is in "Union Flag"
G-BDXD (in "Blue Poole") has been retired a year ago.
G-BDXG is in "Flowerfield"
G-BDXK is in "Chelsea Rose"
G-BDXO is in "Paithani" (looks stunning)

I flew on a BA 747-200 last Christmas DTW-LHR "Blomsterang" scheme. It did not have the seats above, they didnt have adjustable headrests. The seats were comfortable, and were winged (although the wings were just padding). Main Cabin view screens too. New Club World and New First Class were installed though. I flew back on "City Of Stoke-On-Trent" and it had the same interior as described above.

Once in a while a 744 is brought in for that route, although I think it's rare. When I flew BOS-LHR flt 238 in early March, I was on a 744, much to my surprise. Coming back, however, I was on a 742, new livery (Paithani tail I think) with no PTVs. If you end up on a 742, try to get a seat in the Upper Deck. The 742s are still world traveller seating up there, and it's much more mellowed out and away from the masses. I did that coming back to Boston and it was great.
