Any Tu104s Still Operating?

Mon May 21, 2001 6:55 pm

I just watched an old Russian movie about a Tu104 pilot and I really like this plane now. Are there any left that still fly for airlines? I have seen Il18s still flying but Tu104s?

Another pioneer of jet transport that is long gone. I think that Aeroflot operated the last revenue flight in the mid-70'. Many of the TU-104s have not been reported from behind the iron curtain since many years, most of them probably broken up.

Last flight was made in 1986 : a TY 104 flew to a city in Russia (I don't remember which one, maybe Ulyanovsk), where it is now displayed (in a museum).

Aviastar, not completely right. I think, some 104's stayed in service with the Indian Air Force even after 1986

The last civilian Tu-104 flight occurred in 1981, of course for Aeroflot (7/2/1981 I think..or maybe that was the date of a Navy Tu-104)

As to the last flight, I don't know the particulars there, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was to Ryazan.

LZ-TLT...are you sure the Indian Air Force operated the Tu-104? Got info on those at all? Just knocked be back a bit with that.

Cheers

Is there any company in Russia that could organize sales of decomissioned civilian aircrafts such as TU-104 to aviation museums around the world?

I'd love to see such undertakings. I believe it would be wonderful if US based aviation museums (Such as Pima Air, or even Smithsonian) would purchase some TU-104s and others ('134s, '62s, etc) and promote them as great elements of commercial aviation history.

Just like I'm eager to see CV880 (there is an "Airways" article about restauration), I'd love to walk thru TU-104.

Aviatsiya,

Sorry, my mistake. The Indian Air Force apparently operated Tu-124's(the shortened shorthaul/commuter version of the 104):

Probably not, definitely not with any of the Russian carriers.
