WHat's Your Favorite Airline Website?

Tue May 22, 2001 6:55 am

I just read the March 29 issue of Interactive Week (about American Airlines investing a cool 2 billion dollars to spend on updating their computer technology and revamp their website) and they listed the Top 9 ranking of airline websites based on cost, customer service, delivery, content, and overall usability, according to Forrester Research. Here they are:

9) US Airways
8) America West
7) United Airlines
6) Southwest Airlines
5) American Airlines
4) Delta Airlines
3) Northwest Airlines
2) Continental Airlines
1) Alaska Airlines

Personally, I would have ranked United #1. As a frequent web-surfer and someone who works in the computer field, I find it very easy to use and very informative - it gives you every possible flight option on your itinerary, you can check seat availability BEFORE you enter a credit card number, their updates are on-time, there are links to more technical descriptions of their airplanes, etc. I'm very surprised they ranked that low. And have you logged into some of the international carrier's sites? Wow! Very user friendly, especially Cathay Pacific and Qantas.

I'm curious, do you agree with this ranking? What's your favorite airline website (US-based or otherwise)?

I think it would have to be Northwest's airlines website. It is fast and very easy to use--I think
Nightmare 68, Fargo Tower, Runway 36, Fly Runway Heading, Mantain 10,000, Cleared For Takeoff, Change To Departure

yeah, there was a thing recently where the head of AA's interactive department was saying how he preferred NWA.com, and thought it was the best site out there on the net, and how they were working to bring the AA site up to that level.

Have a look to http://www.ryanair.com and you'll see a nice site. Not because of the graphics, but because of the fares.
Unfortunately I can't travel very often, but I'd like it so much!!!!!!!
If you don't consider the fares, also http://www.lufthansa.com, http://www.klm.com and http://www.alitalia.com are not bad.

Most of the airline websites these days are rubbish, with no use at all with the exception. Mostly because they are not constantly updated and info can be found out from a different source.

A website has to act as a good marketing tool for an airline and so the content and layout of the website has to be user friendly.

Airline sites, worth the mention, which I regularly visit, includes the following:

Big thumbs up Gulf Air http://www.gulfairco.com
 Big thumbs up Emirates http://www.emirates.com
 Big thumbs up American http://www.aa.com
Big thumbs up British Airways http://www.britishairways.com

Excellent sites everyone!

GF-A330 was absolutely correct. This is a very important aspect in a good airline website. As cool as some of the graphics I have seen in websites, nothing beats the up-to-date info contained in it as well as the price each sites offer. I think it all boils down to this.

British Airways! Yes, I know. It is difficult to navigate and find what you are looking for there. But I still love it!
