UK TV Series

Wed May 23, 2001 8:36 am

Just wondering if any UK`ers are as hooked as I am on the TV series "Airline" the weekly look at the workings of easyJet at LTN and LPL

Working in the travel industry I can sympathise with the flack that the poor check in agents get from the sometimes very abusive pax and the way they handle the situations.

My feeling is that for the most part the really obnoxious pax are probably more used to the service they have received from the full service lines like BA/BD etc and they can`t understand that luxuries like late check in and reprotecting for missed departures do have a price.

Hats off to the easyJet staff, you are running a good airline but sometimes just attract the wrong passengers  Smile

After working for an airline as an F/A a few year ago, let me assure you that these passengers are not only inflicted on Budget Price Airlines.

I used to work for a full service airline, and yes, you get all sorts of twats there too.

The one's I hated the most were business men that knew more than any one else!

I must say by a long margin, Airport is far more entertaining, Heathrow is such an exciting place with an incredible array of problems. Luton does'nt have the same appeal and It seems that there are a lot of people playing up to the camera.

It seems that passengers think getting on an aeroplane is like catching a bus. Turn up wait and get on, no matter how late you turn up. It's a lack of knowledge regarding the calculations that have to be carried out before a flight can leave the ground, fuel loads, slot allocation etc which pax do not understand. Why should 100+ other passengers be delayed for one passenger who turns up late, regardless of the reason. I've been on a flight which missed its slot due to a tech fault and waiting three hours is no fun, although acceptable when a plane goes tech.

Yes, I agree with Brenjoro_QF, I reckon on balance that Airport is better viewing than Airline... like how many times each programme can they show pax shouting at the staff - it does get boring (so I can guess how the staff feel...)

Airport is much more varied and I like the way that they bring in different departments each series, like Police, Immigration, BAA staff etc.

And JaseWGTN, I totally agree about some business travellers - I work in business travel and they can be total twonks sometimes. I had a guy call me today from the check in line at MUC where he had missed his flight by 45 minutes and was DEMANDING that I got him on to one of the remaining BA or LH flights to LHR which were all full and waitlist-closed - the conversation ended with him heading for the ticket desk to, as he put it, "shove my gold card in their faces !"

And we`re all impressed with that approach, aren`t we  Big grin

Yes Sir, No Sir, Three Bags Full Sir ! - I just hope he`s having a comfortable night on the plastic chairs at MUC  Smile

Cheers all.

BBC is filming Airport right now at MIA (actually, filming might have ended, but not that long ago). Anyone know when those episodes will air?
