United Font's (typeset)

Sun May 30, 1999 12:30 am

I am interested in UAL's font. Is the Typesetting they introduced in the mid nineties still being used for official purposes. I have seen a different typeset used recently on advertising materials and on the UAL site. I haven't yet seen or herd of any aircraft useing this. This different font is close to the one UAL used in its previous livery.

Anybody know, this airline is one that i like to keep up on, after all, its the biggest.

My mom works for United, so naturally, we get a lot of advertising stuff. The aircraft will still wear the Times New Roman (?) font, but on billboards and flyers, the U N I T E D logo will be displayed because its bolder and more "confident."

UA's Plane Font

Sun May 30, 1999 3:20 am

The United Shuttle planes have been converted to the new U N I T E D font...it's really dull and ugly. I hope UA won't do this fleet wide!

UAL Shuttle logos were converted because our corporate management is in the process of giving Shuttle a new identity. Shuttle has done so much damage to UAL's image that there is even talk of axing the Shuttle name altogether and reintegrating Shuttle back into UAL. To the best of my knowledge, UAL will keep the Times New Roman livery on regular UAL aircraft. I am going to Denver next week to take delivery of my new aircraft, so I'll find out firsthand if the switch to that U N I T E D font is fleetwide.

Thank YOU!!! I'm not the only one on here that thinks Shuttle has done damage to UA's image!!!!! I understand what it was set up for...but it is just the nastiest service I have ever been on!

Look at the pictures at the locations below. These are old UAL aircraft in the late '50s - early '60s paint scheme. Look at the font in which the word "UNITED" is written. Look familiar?

Now compare them to this:

Very keen eye, UA946!! I knew that it was just 'UNITED' back then on the 'mainliners' and 'Friendship Fleet' but I didn't realize that it was the same font as the new one!

Well, I saw on the Star Alliance ad on the walls at ORD (It has all of the Star Alliance airlines sections of the airplanes together to make one plane (and it wasn't a real one, just a bunch of photos pasted together). The United section had the new font. Go fig.

Yea...That's the one that I see at the check-in counters, on the Shuttle planes, on the safety cards, and other United company docs. that I receive, and I find it hard to believe that the only part not to be 'redone' with the new font is the mainline UA planes....hmmm....
