USAir 737s In Edmonton City Apt

Fri May 25, 2001 12:35 pm

Today I passed by the Edmonton City Airport and what I saw is 4 737-200s which was a big surprise since Edmonton City airport serves mostly light and business aviation. Two of them were inside the airport maintenance hangars with workers scrapping paint and doing all sorts of things. The other two were parked near to the hangars in full "USAir" titles.
Any ideas of what are they doing in Edmonton. Are they destined for Westjet (all 737-200 fleet)? Any ideas? Thanks!

 Big thumbs up

They're at Spar for overhaul, I believe they're headed to Canada3000, but it could be for a different operator for that matter. Watch for them after they've been repainted to find out...

Actually, the USAir 737s were originally supposed to be delivered to Canjet, but Canjet folded and was also unable to reach a leasing agreement with US Airways.

I doubt that they'll go to WestJet apparently because I've heard that these USAir 737s have different engines from the ones in WJ's fleet, so WJ doesn't want them. At least that's what I heard, so don't take my word for it.

Yes, Spar Aviation is doing the overhauling now with these 732s. Spar specializes in servicing older aircraft, so you may actually see the occasional 737 or 727 at YXD. What strikes me as a bit odd is that these 737s have been sitting by the hangars for months now.

Cascade Aerospace (formerly Conair) in Abbotsford has the WestJet heavy maintenance contract, so that's another reason the aircraft at YXD probably aren't for WJ.

CanJet had been negotiating for three other 737-200's from US, but didn't reach a leasing deal. I heard some of those aircraft were picked up by Royal. Spar had the contract for the pre-delivery overhaul for CanJet, and I'm not sure, but possibly Royal as well.
