CO 757 EWR-DUS

Tue May 29, 2001 5:46 am

I know it has been talked about a few times already but I just wanted to ask if anybody knows if CO will replace the 757 on the flight to Düsseldorf/Germany. They used to use the much larger DC-10 on that route then I think they used the 762 and are now down to the 757. I would love to see them use the 764 but I doubt it.
And has anybody been on that flight? How was it in a single-aisle airplane for the trip?
regards,
Max

Nov. 1st as Dersertjets stated. But I doubt it will ever go to 764.

DesertJets is correct, Dusseldorf's reign of 757 service will come to halt this Novemeber when they recieve the 767-200ER. Expect to see service from Houston to Frankfurt and Newark to Munich and/or Berlin to be initiated over the next few years.

Just did a little more checking. AMS goes back to the 762 at the beginning of June. And the next 764 route will be EWR-MAD. A 764 is being delivered next month and starts flying to Madrid in July. Which leaves FCO and MXP as the only DC-10 European cities at the end of the summer, after Glasgow switches back to the 757.

Rome and Milan will become 767-400ERs in early '02. Amsterdam is upgraded to that same aircraft a few months later. Does this foreshadow the never-commeced talks with KLM?

Will FCO and MXP ever go back to the 777, or will they be permanentaly operated by the 764? What will they use on the future IAH-FRA flight? 764?

I was just on the return flight on May 15th. Not biz1st, but great CO service anyway. I was sort of sceptical 'bout flying this route on a narrow-body, but it was actually great. Seemed to get more attention from the fa's, etc. Though, I wouldn't complain if they went with the 764 or 777 instead.

At the moment they don't have enough Boeing 767 for this route, but the crazy thing is that during summer timetable much more passengers are flying to the US, due school holidays and warm seasan. So it's not very locigal to fly with the 767 in November, but when there no 767 is available. Once I heard also that CO will fly with their 764 to DUS. Luckily CO is happy with their 762 service to Zürich.
Greetings
Mike

looked at timetable for Continental flight from Manchester to Newark in amadeus.net up to the end of the year, and the flight is operated by 777's. So it looks like it will be a 777 operated flight for the foreseeable future.

Thanks Shamrock. I heard it was being upgraded to 2 daily 762/764 because there's loads of demand.

Cba-
The Milan and Rome flights may or may not be upgraded to 777s in the near future. They do have two of the triple-7s being delivered in 2002, but it looks like MXP and FCO are set to recieve 767-400ER service. I always thought that the two 777s on order would be for those very two cities because Continental ordered them right after they anounced the HKG flight, which would take awayy the triple sevens from Rome and Milan. Oh well, maybe we'll seea Newark-Osaka route with them, Continental Micronesia has soem frequncies that they could spare in order to make this flight work because Continental already holds the right to fly between the two cities.

Houston-Frankfurt is unpredictable. Expect a 767-200ER initially, and if loads prevail a 764 should be a nice upgrade for a good market. Rome, Amsterdam, and Madrid will most likely be served with 767s, and the latter one making a good 767-400ER because of LatAm connections.

A friend of mine has flown DUS-EWR-DUS last week. He did not like the B757. Very full on both flights. And the TVs are not very easy to see when you have a window seat. But hopefully CO service to DUS will switch to B762. And I think it is enough for DUS. A764 is too big.
