What was your longest flight? Mine was SEA-PVG aboard a China Eastern MD-11.

Hi there,

To date, my longest non-stop flights have been MIA-CPT and LAX-HKG which both took 14hrs 35min. However, in August, I will fly ATL-JNB with a total time of 15hrs 25min non-stop.

Mine would definitely be SVO-JFK. Ten hours.

GUM-HNL-EWR
GUM-HNL-7 hours (DC-10)
HNL-EWR-10 hours (DC-10)
Total of 17 hours, one long trip. Not one PTV to be found, I did much sleeping. The fine service provided by Continental Airlines did make the long trip very pleasurable.

Hey Thornton, I also have flown the Mia-Cpt non-stop on SAA. That was long. I've also flown HKG(Kai Tak) LAX on CX but only from HKG. Was only about 11.5 hrs due to the tailwinds. Please post a trip report about your future ATL-JNB flt. I believe that is the world leader now in terms of miles.

If it is a single flight, it would be HKG-YYZ (direct) with CX. Total flight time = 15 hours

If it involves multiple flights, I once flew from:
SEA-TPE-CKG-SIN-PER on 2 days in a row for a total of 33 hours including transit stops. I remembered by the time I reached Perth airport, it was like 2 in the morning and the cab driver asked me where I flew from..... and I could only tell him that I couldn't remember

SFO-HKG nonstop on SQ 14.5 hours. That's usually
the first leg of the trip. I have done
SFO-HKG-SIN-BKK-PHS for a few times. Total travel
time is pushing 30 hours due to a lot of transit
time in SIN and BKK.

I could make it a little shorter by doing
HKG-BKK instead of HKG-SIN-BKK by hoping on TG,
but I would rather fly SQ even though it'll take
longer.

My wife did SQ/TG change over last trip she flew,
and she said it as quite a let down when she got
on TG J after SQ P (F) on SQ 1.
There's simply no comparison. She said that
she would rather connect through SIN for the
next time just to stay on SQ all the way to BKK.

Amsterdam-Atlanta with connection to San Francisco (switch planes, just enough time to go to the other terminal).

Flying Delta was a lot cheaper (and on time...) than KLM  Smile

I know the longest commercial flight in operation is JFK-HKG, but I don't know what is the longest POSSIBLE flight.

By the end of next year, we'll have SIN-LAX, SIN-SFO and SIN-YVR non-stop.

I don't know how SQ can sustain those flights since they make heaps from their NRT-LAX, ICN-SFO, ICN-YVR, TPE-LAX and HKG-SFO routes.

Qantas QF12 from LAX to SYD. Due to headwinds the flight lasted 14.5 hours and I had a screaming kid near by that made it feel like a year! This is the night flight that leaves LAX about 9.30 and arrives around dawn in Sydney, it was also my longest night due to the date line. Took off on Friday night and arrived Sunday morning.
I remember when the DC-3 was new!

My longest flight was from ATL-PDX. About 4 and a half hours. At least I was in BusinessElite on an MD-11. Enjoyed that flight so much, I did it several more times.

Well my longest to date have been:

PHL-LAX on US (x3)
PHL-SAN on US (x1)
PHL-SFO on US (x1), and UA (x1)

However in under a month I will be doing LAX-SYD as part of a larger trip whose complete routing is as follows:

PHL-LAX-SYD-CNS-SYD-LAX-PHL on US, NZ, and AN

I think total flight time both ways is about 45 or 46 hours...23 hours one way (albeit with two stops)

MXP-LAX on AZ MD-11 12.30h

In 1997 it took me 17h. We were delayed for over 3h at MXP waiting for a takeoff slot on the apron and 1h at LAX waiting for gate 106 at the Tom Bradley terminal. Horrible!

Other long flights I flew are CDG-SFO FRA-SFO LHR-LAX LHR-SFO MXP-IAD MXP-EWR MXP-JFK SFO-MUC.

Longest for me was CO 99 AND CO 98 from EWR to and from Hong Kong. I fly quite a few LGW>IAH or LGW >EWR every month also.

I am not sure that there is a longer flight that I can take other than the United Flight from JFK >HKG, but it is only longer by about a minute

Vulindlela744,

The longest scheduled flight in the world is now JFK-HKG non-stop on United Airlines. That will soon be joined by Cathay's non-stop on the same route. It will take 15hrs 45min on United's 744 but it may take a little longer on Cathay's service because they will be flying an Airbus A340 which is a slower machine.

Just a note, Continental Airlines flies EWR-HKG non-stop in 15hrs. 40mins. This gives them the honor of flying the longest scheduled twin-engined flight. They do it on a 777-200.

Hi Again,

Since so many people mentioned their longest multi-segment trips, mine was as follows:

BOS-JFK-YVR-HKG-DPS
For those who don't know airport codes,
that was Boston-New York-Vancouver-Hong Kong-Denpasar, Indonesia (Bali). Total travel time (including the horrible waits in terminals) was 32hrs 15mins.

I recall that when I arrived in Bali, for some strange reason, I could not comprehend the signage. I could read them but I could not comprehend! ....and yes, they were in ENGLISH!

My longest flight right now is from BRU to ATL, which is about 9 hours. In about four weeks, my return flight from Athens to JFK will be my longest. It is 11 hours.
