A340 Parked At San Diego

Fri Jun 01, 2001 7:24 am

For the past week now, an Airbus 340 has been parked on the apron in front of JimsAir, a charter/executive company located at the east end of Lindbergh Field, San Diego. I pass the airport twice a day to and from work on the light rail system. I can't quite figure out why it's there and for so long. Anyone from San Diego have any ideas?

If it's still there next week, I'll give them a call and see if I can get any information from them...but JimsAir is usally tight lipped about their customers...and their aircraft.

Sorry...I forgot to add that the A340 has an all white livery with no other markings.

Well, I found the answer to my question regarding the AirBus 340 at Lindbergh Field, San Diego.

A fellow employee told me that it transported the Finance Minister of Saudi Arabia to our city. I was also told that while the minister was off doing what ever finance ministers do, one of our board members gave a tour though our facility to the A-340 crew.

I'm always the last to find out what's going on. Oh, well.

I was thinking about that on my way home from work this afternoon. It really must be very plush inside.

Yes, Chepos, I am sure they do. The aircraft is so large.
There is probably dining areas, living and office areas all through the fuselage. It would be interesting to peek inside. But of course, the Saudi's have a great deal of money to lavish on their aircraft...and everything else, so I am told.

hgkaspooter1,

Sorry, I didn't see your question until a moment ago.

Everytime I went by on the train I made a determined effort to look for a registration number but could not see one. I will add however that I did see a blue-gray horizontal stripe about 3/4 up on the vertical fin. Other than that, the aircraft livery was a solid egg-shell white with no other markings.

It's still there...

If you want to get a really good view of it, go to "The Windsock" restaurant at the Jimsair facilities. You should be able to see the back part of the plane the best and easily get the registration.

Trvlr,

Hi, and thank you for the tip. In my younger days I use to go down to Jimsair quite a bit...but since I no longer drive a car, I don't get around to the airports much anymore. You are right, The Windsock would be an excellent vantage point....and thanks again.

If you ever get down to the Aerospace Museum, look me up.

Hello Alpha,

What a GREAT PICTURE!! Yes, that is the aircraft...or its twin. What a beautiful plane the A-340 is...and so big.
Thank you very much for taking the time to send me this fantastic photo which I will download with your permission...and keep as a memory.

Thanks again, Alpha for your very welcomed help.

Alpha and all,

Take a look at the top of the fuselage. See all of those antennas? The Saudi aircraft must be loaded with every kind of communication device available. I don't believe I have seen that many antennas on regular commercial aircraft.

Mac,

This pic is not mine, the author is Manuel Negrerie, from KeroZen Association http://www.kerozen.org, a great site, trust me !

The A340-200 HZ-124 is also present on Airliners.net. It belongs to Saudi Arabian Ministry of Defense & Aviation (according to the JP airline-fleets international 2001-2002), for me it was owned by the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, like the 707-100 HZ-123, but apparently it changed !

U're right about all theses antennas ! Woohh !! in spite of its lack of colors, I would like to see it a day, it regularly comes at Le Bourget, so one day... when I'll be lucky  Wink/being sarcastic
