American Airline Crash Info...

Thu Jun 03, 1999 4:21 am

The plane that crashed around 11:45pm yesterday (June 1st) night was an AMERICAN AIRLINES MD-82, age 16, registration number N215AA c/n 49163. It was running with 145 people on board (6 crew, 139 passengers) when it crashed. So far, 9 are dead, including the captain of the plane. The plane apparently ran off the runway, hit a pole, broke in to, burst into flams, and rested along the banks of the Arkansaw River. It was American Airlines flight 1420, Dalls (DFW) to Littlerock, Arkansaw. 77 people are checked into a local ospital. I will get back to you with passenger/family help crisis line from American Airlines as soon as I receive it. They are still unsure the definate cause. When the plane landed, there was SEVER lightning storm and rain. It was expected at 9:41pm, yet circled for 2 hours. There are 4 MAIN belifes the NTSB is researching...
1.)Slippery runway caused plane to not be able to stop
2.)Captain tried to make a go-around when touching ground
3.) Just overshot the runway. REst in peace to all hwho
or 4.) Captain could not see

Rest in peace to all who have died. That beaks Americas record for 1 and 1/2 years without 1 passenger fatality.

Further info I have just heard. There was - in addition to the lightning and generally stormy conditions - very severe gusts of wind, which reached 87 mph four minutes before the crash. Possibly the crew weren't fully advised of the true conditions, but you can be sure the lawyers will seize on this, especially if 87 mph gusts are above AA minima. I assume they also aquaplaned cos all the eyewitness reports said the plane was sliding sideways most of the way down the runway.
fly Saha Air 707s daily from Tehran's downtown Mehrabad to Mashhad, Kish Island and Ahwaz
