According to SQ's latest timetable, their 10 daily flights to KUL are operated by a mix of 772, A343 and A310s.

They used to operate a daily 744 to KUL as SQ 116 but I suppose a decrease in load to KUL since KLIA opened led to them downgrading that flight to a 772.

However, during the Chinese New Year, SQ does mount extra flights to KUL and does deploy 744s, due to the surge in cross-straits travel.

Hi there,

For quite a few years in the late 80's and early 90's I used to enjoy flying on a TWA 747 from Boston to New York, JFK. The flight took about 32 minutes and was the beginning leg of a service from Boston to either Madrid or Barcelona.

Those were the days!!!!

I believe that would be Lufthansa flight 540. The flight lasted only 1,120 meters.

Sorry. I don't mean to make light of a tragedy, I've just seen this topic a few too many times.

What about JAL's or All Nippons 747 domestic flights? Are any of them less than 45 minutes in length?

I'm not suuuure, but I bet that the YUL-JFK leg that RAM flies on the way to Casablanca is pretty short... maybe under an hour?
Next flight.... who knows.

A couple years ago there was a B747-200 that belonged to Air Nambia or something that diverted to Burlington Intl in VT, due to xw at Boston Logan. Once on the ground that company folded and the plane was left at BTV. The airport wanted it out of there so they made the airline fly it to the retired Plattsburgh AFB in NY to the P&W place. BTV to PBG is just under 20nm, that plane's still there today w/ 3 engines. The rumor is that the engine was removed to keep someone from taking it, even though that;s pretty unlikely. The parking bill must be getting pretty expensive since it's up to 5 years now. That was when I was working @ BTV as an ATCS

SAA flies FLL-ATL with a 744. Though, revene passengers can only embark/disembark at FLL/ATL is they disembark/embarked at CPT. No FLL-ATL passengers.

The domestic operations in Japan are likely to be some of the shortest haul 747 flights. From time to time, UA will use a 744 from SFO-LAX or return when they need to move many pax between the two hubs because weather or operational problems have "messed up" the frequent service between the two cities and hundreds of people are waiting to depart. Thai at one time flew 744s from FRA to BRU (about 45 minutes) as a continuation of its BKK to FRA service, SQ flew its 744s on a few short-haul continuations as well, ie, ZRH-AMS, AMS-MAN, as continuation of flights from Singapore, but these flights are becoming less common - this winter I believe there is a SQ 744 service between MAN and BRU, about 1 hour 15 minutes. Outside of the Far East/Japan, where the really large aircraft are needed for capaicty, the 747 shows up on short-haul routes only as continuations of longer-haul or the occasional inter-hub service (sometimes, for example, UA LAX-DEN, DEN-ORD).

If Delta had a 747, it would probably be flying ATL-MCO.  Big grin
