What Airlines Still Serve Peanuts?

Mon Jun 04, 2001 10:55 am

What domestic Airlines (US) still serve Peanuts? I heard some carriers eliminated them altogether, and then some offer an alternative.

Carriers may continue to serve peanuts, as long as there is an alternative such as pretzels. We still stock peanuts on many of our flights. I do find it funny that on the package of peanuts it says "MAY CONTAIN PEANUT PRODUCTS". I always get a kick out of that.

Most airlines may ban peanuts from a liability standpoint now. Peanuts, from what I understand, can cause an allergic reaction simply by beathing the air that it's in. I.E. cabin air that is not recirculated.

You should always keep in mind that in South America, they burn down large areas of rain forest every day, just to grow peanuts there. Just to serve peanuts on the US domestic flights. Okay I know, in the US there are other, worse environment problems (pollution, CO²-production, oil companies in Alaska ...), but think about it next time they serve peanuts!

Ndebele,
Peanuts are grown in American soil, less than 50 mi from house. I guess you thought America was a brown, dusty polluted wasteland. Oh, brother you environmental types are just plain...

JonPaulGeoRngo,
I didn't say America was a "brown, dusty polluted wasteland". I fact, I was not even talking about all America, I was only talking about the USA, and the millions of peanuts they serve every day on their flight.
Of course there are peanuts growing in the USA. But there are so many flights every day that this is not enough. Believe me, more than 50% of the peanuts served in the USA were grown in South America (which is, in fact, "American soil", too!).

Everything is censored or banned because some "rights" group pays off politicians to get laws passed, or goes on an airplane and eats a peanut just so she can sue for 500 million USD (one person ruins it for the whole lot). Do they examine airline interiors for peanuts, and if they find one stuck between the seats, do they sue for 500 million because that one peanut could kill them? Come on folks, some of these peanut crusaders need to give it a rest.

Sometimes I wish I was back in the 50's.

Well on my flight from LAX to SFO on Alaska just last Friday night, they served peanuts along with a beverage, although there were no peanuts on the SFO-LAX sector the day before  Sad

N312RC, I suspect that after "they" suceed in banning peanuts from airline flights they are going to target women's perfumes, soaps and other "allergy-causing" toiletries from airplanes, schools, workplaces, etc.

So Ndebele, do the Germans (or Europeans) grow all of their own peanuts to supply their demand for peanut products? We all know, its ONLY the U.S. of A. that is truly the most reprehensible villian of Mother Earth. Ha, ha.

JonPaulGeoRngo,

once again: I didn't want to say anything against the USA (in fact I didn't). Sorry if anybody felt offended despite.

To come back to that peanut thing: If I remember right, Germany imports their peanuts mostly from north Africa (Sahel zone) and southeast Asia. But the demand for peanuts is by far not as high as in other parts of the world. I never saw Lufthansa or British Airways serving peanuts on domestic / european flights.

For any further discussion considering the origin of peanuts, and to find out which nation is the most reprehensible villian of Mother Earth, we should better move to the non-aviation forum, shouldn't we?

Regards, Ndebele.

Delta might but as far as I know, all they serve is a snack mix with peanuts in it.
