How Would The Sonic Cruiser Fit In For DL?

Mon Jun 04, 2001 10:55 am

Hi all,

I don't usually post something hypothetical, but it seems that the larger of the American carriers have shown interest in the Sonic Cruiser, with the notable exception of Delta, who of course, I have never seen innovate in much of anything. Don't get me wrong, they are my airline of choice for flights from here.

But, considering that Delta's largest aircraft is the 777, and the greater bulk of their intercontinental flying is done by the 767, and they are very much subscribing to the frequency vs. capacity theory, wouldnt it make sense for them to add such an aircraft to their fleet? If the economics were there, I really think that it is something they should consider.

I am interested in opinions and viewpoints.

Thanks,

I believe you would see most airlines that currently have a lot of point to point routes rather then hub and spoke, have most interest in the "Sonic Cruiser".
But since Delta have been avoiding getting larger aircraft in their fleet and flies overseas with 250+ passenger aircraft there is potential for some suitability. They did buy the 777 and there are a lot of similarities between the 777 and the Sonic Cruiser, as in, cockpit and engines.
