Discounted 1st Class International Ticket.

Mon Jun 04, 2001 1:32 pm

Anybody use 1stair.net before ?

I read about it on msnbc.com and decided to give it a
try. It took a few back and forth to get the flight I
really wanted. They kept trying to put me on other
airline rather than SQ that I asked for.

Finally, they came back with the exact flights I want
and almost $3000 cheaper than what SQ and/or Amex
travel agent usually charge me.

How is this possible ? I called amex back and told them about this. The agent seemed to be as puzzled as I am.
They said that they'll do more research about this.

Anybody use this guy (1stair.net) service before,
are they any gotcha there ? They seem legit to me so
far. They have office in NY and singapore.

I'm still pretty amazed that they can undercut the price by 30%. They claim that ticket is fully changable, refudable and will get the usual mileage. Seem almost too good to be true to me.

Don't all the travel agent have access to the same database ? I don't think that this guy is a consolidator or use mileage to upgrade trick either.

Thoughts ?

Aha. Sorry, it seems like I'm talking to myself.

I figured out how they do it.
They must break a trip into two one way tickets.
SFO-BKK on one ticket and BKK-SFO on the other one.
First class fare in Thailand is about only about 30% of the fare in US market.

So 0.5 * 8900 + 0.5 * 3200 = 6050. That's what they quoted me.

Is this *legal* ? Is this in violation of any tariff law ?
It seems a little border line to me.

I receive the complete itinerary from their website.

I think that the trick is that they're going to ticket it
with two one way tickets instead of usual one return ticket with all the flight segments in it.

I'm just wonder how legal this is. I bet the airline is not too happy though.

I'm talking to myself again.

To my amazement, I called Singapore Airline main office
in SIngapore. They said that it's perfectly OK to travel on two one ways ticket instead of one return ticket as long as I embark, disembark accordingly to the ticket restriction. They even say people do this all the time even KL-SIN.

What do I know, huh ?
