In the Friday, June 1 issue of the St. Louis Post Dispatch newspaper, Mark Abels, Director of Corporate Communications for TWA Airlines LLC., said that by the end of the summer, a TWA/AA combined livery will be appearing on TWA's airplanes as an interim step towards converting TWA's fleet to the AA livery. How cool! Get out those cameras. I'm guessing the "TWA" logo on the tail and the "Trans World" lettering on the fuselage will be replaced with the "AA" logo and the "American" script respectively, keeping the red, white, gold and blue paint and possibly the globe. Can't wait to see it.
In other transition notes, Mr. Abels said the TW 717, 757 and MD80 fleets will be converted to AA's "More Room Throughout Coach" configuration by the end of the summer. The 767's will be done by October.
Last Friday also marked the first day that "American Way" appeared in TW seat pockets. I'm proud to say I flew on TW that day (early in the day) and was able to grab a couple of brand new copies for my rapidly-expanding TWA memorabilia collection.
It's happening folks. Sad but exciting at the same time.
