Varig B777's-TAM A320's

Fri Jun 04, 1999 2:39 am

It seems we are waiting way too long for these companies to receive these aircrafts. TAM is a growing company in Brazil and Varig is the most traditional. However, they've been thumped by the crisis and delayed all the plans. It will be great to see these great companies with new aircrafts and more frequent routes. For now we just await. Any new info or news on this will be excellent.

This goes for TAM. I have seen some pics of TAM's first A319 aircraft in Europe, in Germany I think, where it was built. So if the aircraft is there with TAM's livery, and the deal with Airbus Industrie is not broken - remember its a whole deal among TAM/Lan Chile and TACA - I think the A319 will be in Brazil shortly. If TAM cannot take it, I think Lan Chile or TACA will do, and then TAM will take its first aircraft when the crisis is gone. I hope to see the A319 in TAM colours here in Buenos Aires as soon as possible. Best regards Roberto Buenos Aires Argentina

There are at least two TAM A319's with registrations already assigned:
PT-MZA and PT-MZB

I hope they make technical stops here in FAO as with TAM F100's.

Varig delayed the delivery of it's 777s due to the crisis, but TAM, with a better financial health, is pursuing another strategy and trying to gain market share and so expanding their fleet....The A319s will at first serve the Air Shuttle.

I got a notice that TAM's A319 were to be delivered in June, was deffered, but their still scheduled to receive it.

I also heard that Transbrasil signed a "letter of intention" for new aircrafts due soon.

I read on "Flap Internacional" May-99 that the specific first two B777-200, which were suposed to be delivered to VARIG in 2001, are going to fly under Continental's colours. From what I understood, VARIG doesn't cancelled the orders; they have just permetted Continental to pass in front of them on the deliveries. About TAM, their first two A319 are told to arrive still this month and start CGH-SDU air shuttle. That's all I know. TP343, São Paulo, Brazil p.s. what do you know/where did you read about TransBrasil? Is it about their plans for 777s again? Thanks!

TP, vc sabe se a Flap faz assinatura? Pq aqui no Rio ela sempre chega com um atraso significativo, quando chega. E, tendo assinatura, fica mais facil.

Obrigado

TAM A319's

Sun Jun 06, 1999 8:35 pm

I saw both TAM A319s two weeks ago at the Airbus factory where they are built. Both are in the delivery area rather than the assembly/testing area and both had changed from their German test regs to the Brazilian regs already, PT-MZA and PT-MZB, however the latter had it's Reg already overtaped, again...
And also learnt that the next delivery positions originally planned for TAM have been relocated to AmWest, Northwest...
Also the new small titles on the nose, 'The Magic Red Carpet', which I saw the A330 also wears: Any special reason for that, meaning? Or 'just' a nickname?

Thanks /Cruise

The Magic Red Carpet - F-WWKH

Sun Jun 06, 1999 10:47 pm

About the phrase in question, I have a supposition: The "Red Carpet" is part of their image, because it is with what they welcome their passengers from the courtyard to the stairs for the airplane (Fokkers mainly). And, if the red carpet isn't there for any raison, anyway the service will be 5-star. It's an allusion to their service standard, because the red carpet really became part of their image before the public. I think the meaning is basically this! I hope to have helped, TP343, São Paulo, Brazil

I found out that Transbrasil has already signed a LOI for 4 777-200ER's. But notice, this was signed before all the crisis began, so, we might see some changes on that regard. It is also said that Vasp will replace its 732 fleet in the near future...

Valeu- Regards,

Some good news: TAM is intended to receive its 4th A330-200 this month, and tomorrow it inaugurates the service to Paris, logging the same aircraft type on route.
