Satena

What has happened to this colombian(?) airline? Last thing I heard was a few years ago, at that time they operated the Dornier Do328 and a jet I think. What are they doing now? Are they still around? If so, what is their situation and what are their fleet plans?

SATENA is the airline run by the Colombian Air Force, mainly to serve destinations within Colombia that would not be viable for commercial operators. It operates Dornier 328s and (still?) a single Fokker F-28. They used to have a couple of 727-100s, and before that 748s, DC-4s and DC-3s, but these types are now all gone.

What are their plans for the future? Long-haul? More regional business?

I should think they'll stay pretty much as they are now, every so often getting new kit. Military airlines rarely get involved in major commercial routes, and usually confine their operations to uneconomical routes that would not sustain commercial operations, operating with government subsidy. Besides, I don't think military airlines make plans for the future - they just do what they are ordered to do from on high!  Big grin

Similar to SATENA, but on a larger scale, is TAME, the military airline of Ecuador. They fly 727s and F-28s, but again are largely confined to operating routes on behalf of the government that are not commercially viable.
