I know that Airbus already owns more than 100 orders for the A318.
Air France and British Airways have ordered it, AF pushing on Airbus to have it with CFM56 engines.

Ciao

I was not able to find the date of this website, so, please correct me if there is something wrong...
A318 orders:
Air China Intl': 8
Air France: 15
America West Airlines 15
British Airways 12
Egyptair 5
Frontier Airlines 5
TWA 25

Total: 85

(but on the website, total is 127????)

Hi Stefano!
You 're right when you say: "AF pushing on Airbus to have it with CFM56 engines."
But also SNECMA (french company which produce CFM56 with GE). I was working there, and all employees (who agreed) sent a postcard to the french minister of transportation for pointing out A318 should use CFM56.
It was a beautiful postcard! I have a second one at home if you want to see it!

I know that there is a small chance that SN will order some A318's. Other option for SN is ordering some ERJ-145's.

Yes we want to see the postcard!!!

I think that the CFM56 is the most suitable engine to it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't CFM56 what most of the 32X units are equipped with? So, commonality calls (although they would very probably going to be slightly different versions, lighter or less powerful)...

The A318 is like a 737-100/200.
The A319 is like a 737-300/500/600/700.
The A320 is like a 737-400/800
The A321 is like a 737-900/757-200
The A330 is like the 767-300/300ER
The A340 is like the 777-200
The A340-600 is like the 777-300/400
The A300 is like the DC-10/777
The A310 is like the 767-200

Now who here thinks Airbus is not a competitor... So why would TWA keep their order for airbuses if they have an All-Boeing Fleet. I would have cancelled it.

I stand corrected here, but I think Air Canada will be the launch customer.

Altoun,

The 127 could be explained by the large orders placed by ILFC (30, I believe) and GECAS (not sure how many).

Well Air Canada can't be launch-customer since they didn't order the A318... Maybe one day but even then AC can't be the launch-customer.

TWA cancelled all A318 orders.
They placed order for more ERJ 145.

Critter, those analogies you made are not quite correct. For one, nobody cares how current airliners stack up to ones that are no longer in production.

Here are more proper analogies for capacity and range:

736 ~= 318*
73G ~= 319
738 ~= 320
739 ~= 321

757 ~= no Airbus competitor! 321 is much smaller, and has much less range.
753 ~= no Airbus competitor!

767 ~= A310 (But who still buys A310s?)
763 ~= A332
764 ~= A333 (But the 333 has much greater range)

772 ~= A333/342 (772 bests the 333 in range and is slightly larger)
773 ~= A343

744 ~= no Airbus competitor!

no Boeing competitor ~= A380*
