New European Low Cost Best Base

Thu Jun 07, 2001 4:05 am

Like a today very popular topic "new airlines best base", if you will to start a low cost in Europe, where do you plane to base your hub??

My choose:

Stockholm Skavska (close to Stockholm high fares traffic)

Hanh (close to Frankfurt)

Milan MXP (it's a big airport but with a lot of slots available)

Berlin (the new Brandebourg when it will open)

and finally Lyon (france) cause it's in the middle of Europe.

Why not like ryanair : at Brussels south airpor which is in fact the airport of the city "Charleroi" located 35 miles south of Brussels.

Ryanair had etablish his new continental hub here from end of april with flight to:
Stansted
Shannon
Trevisie (Venise)
Carcassonne (south of France)
Stockholm
and another one ,i forget sorry

Actually Charleroi - carcassonne one way 10 us$

Crazy but how long is it possible without a financial crash?

I think that Stockholm Skavsta Aiport can be an option in the future. I think RyanAir had it in mind, but choosed Brussels instead.

Well actually the correct answer is London Stansted! Thats why 4 low cost carriers have/had their base there. Go, Ryanair, Buzz and the now defunct Virgin Express. Also, easyJet operate some flights from Stansted, although they are based at Luton.

Virgin Express continue to operate from LHR & BRU, so are not defunct.
easyJet no longer use STN.
What about MUC as a base?

A good choice for a low-budget airline would be Moenchengladbach in Germany. Lots of slots avaiable - a runway of 2400m (in future!) - and very near to Duesseldorf / Cologne und Ruhrgebiet.
