The 747 Is Still Something Special

Thu Jun 07, 2001 7:48 pm

Hey,
I was just thinking about flying all the different planes. And it struck me that the 747 is still unreached so far. I kinda feel more at home in a 747 then in any other plane. Alone the shape of the fuselage offers more "housey" feelings since it isn't just a round tube but also has that bump... Well I don't know why but it's just a wonderful thing to be able to ride one. I bet that being in the A380 will also be special. What do you think?

I have only been on the 747 once, but it was still a memorable experience. I get awestruck by simply watching the "whale" in flight and admiring her lines. Long live the Queen of the skies.

The A380 will also raise those emotions for many people out there. This will indeed be an impressive aircraft. I have to admit though, I will be quite sentimental when the torch will be passed on the day the A380 makes her maiden flight.
I'm not a real aeronautical engineer, I just play one on Airliners.net.

The 747 is indeed something special. While the A380 will be an impressive aircraft, it remains to be seen whether or not it will have the same long lasting impact of the 747.

Hopes that Boeing will produce more 747 in years to come!!!

Long live the Queen Of The Skies!!!

I agree. You just can't make an aircraft better than a 747. There is nothing like the power of a 747, no aircraft has the beauty, fame, and respect this aircraft gets. The 747 will be continued for a long time with the 744ER.

LONG LIVE QUITE POSSIBILY THE BEST AIRCRAFT ON THIS EARTH, THE BOEING 747.

The 747 is the greatest aircraft flying at the moment.

It remains to be seen whether the A380 will have the same impact, but just the same with the 747 i cannot imagine something so big in the sky.

and anyway, seen as you are a Boeing B744 fan you should realize that its the B747-400LR not B747-400ER.

Forgot to say, although the 747 looks stunning, has class, style, elegance and power i do not like to fly on it as a passenger. I'd rather fly on something smaller that you can actually feel like you are flying in.

Just my thoughts

Its amazing to think of the technology that was avalaibale at the time the first 747 was launched. It was really the first long range, high pax. commercial aircraft ever made, up untill the early 90s with the A340. I read a good statement in a book a while back that said something like, that every small aspiring nation all want to see a big 747 in there national airline livery parked at their airport, as it is a sign of the strength of the country.

Even though the A380 will be an AMAZING thing to see, the path to long distance high passenger loads have been around for nearly 35 years, so in that respect it is nothing new. Only the design. The 747 has revouluntionised the way everybody travels. It is now possible to get from one side of the earth to the other in 24 hrs! AMAZING!!

Both AI, and Boeing have gone towards making long distance twins in the last few years (777, and A330) but there will still be a large market for long distance travel.

Every time I travel on a 747, I cannot help to think of the hundreds of thousands, possibly millions that have made there thoudorus way across the worlds oceans, and deserts in this metal tube.

And hopefully the Jumbo will be around for many decades to come, and with QF being the launch customer of the new 744 long range maybe we will see them in our skies in 20 years time!

Right on LH 744 D-ABVD. I full heartedly agree with you on this issue. To me, the 747 is the most beautiful aircraft in the world, and it flies in a myriad of airline colors. My personal favorite, United, operates the 747-400 on its Pacific routes and I've often flown it from LAX to MEL via Auckland, NZ. The hump and sheer size is what makes the 747 a special airliner, something that I don't think the A380 could acquire. Of Course I'm a Boeing and McDonnell Douglas fan, so on't take my opinions for Airbus Aircraft as offensive. Great article.

Agree with everyone one of you on this, what i will like to say has been said!

A B747 to me that is, really a special and it is my personal favourite plane. I agree, it really feels that you are close to home whenever i fly the B747, no matter which airline. Should be crowned the Queen of the skies. I don't think the A380 can ever beat my love for the B747.

My 2 cents,

Cheers,

alvin

Yeah! The B 747 is the best bird I ever seen in my life. Some people I know are dreaming of getting the B 777 to rule the World but this will never happen.

LONG LIVE THE B 747!!!!!!!!!!

United Airline... i agree! The B777 may be more advanced and it is one of my favourites, but nothing beats the B747.

Have you ever noticed that everyone looks to the sky when a 747 goes over and just stares at it for a minute, even if they are not aviation fanatics!!

Yes I notice that Jet guy it really is a marvellous aircraft best ever built and will take something really special to beat its beauty, even the mighty A380.
I've never actually flown any other aircraft commercially other than the 747.
Both stunning experiences on NZ and CO.
Nothing beats watching this mighty bird thundering down the runway and semmingly effortlessly rotate and climb away magestically.
The 777 will never rule the world.

Scott.

The A380 will never achieve the fame, reputability, or respect the 747 did. Think of it this way, there will never be another Michael Jordan, which is what the 747 is to commercial aviation. The 747 has flown millions of people, carried millions of tons of cargo, and is used by NASA for the Space Shuttle (which says a lot). The 747 will always rule the sky.
