Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Sat Jun 09, 2001 3:34 pm

Houston is getting record levels of rain at this time... the local news station has 4 feet of water in their building and has to go off the air. IAH has had at least 54 diversions and is reporting delays up to seven hours or more.So I would suggest that if anyone has flight plans in the next day or two that include IAH or HOU .... Change them.I think I am on high enough ground to avoid wading out my front door... but I'm keeping an eye outside just in case.

Geez, a plane would rather land in a lake than Houston!? The rain must be bad! Laugh out loud Laugh out loud

Hong Kong's the same. Rainstorm and flooding warnings the past few days as well as thunderstorms galore. Glad I'm not flying.

I hope HKG is having an easer time of it then we are. Lots of Houstonians have a pool where their living room use to be. CO has suspended all operations at IAH until at least 0700hrs local.

The Mayor of Houston has declared the city in a state of emergency....(Duh..!). Most of the city is under water in what is said to be a 500 year flood. CO has canceled most domestic flights in and out of IAH until 1200hrs local. So if anyone has flights that include either IAH or HOU any time soon... rethink your plans.
I sure hope HKG has/is having an easier time with their weather.

I'm in AUS and we're getting DC-10s. 762s, 772s, we got KLM, LH, and Cayman.

There is a photo on the database of a number of European carriers diverted at MSY, during previous bad weather at IAH.

You seem to be getting more interesting weather than us! Big grin

Lake Charles is a small town a little over a hundred miles east of Houston metro area, in the state of Louisiana. No, the plane isn't being diverted into a lake...but to the Lake Charles Regional Airport.

I didn't know their runway was long enough for a commercial jet.

Did a lot of Houston flights get diverted to MSY?

MSY is one of the usual diversion cities for IAH so I would say yes. CO's IAH diversion info is loaded in FOMS, not Sonic, so I don't know just what flight went where last night. Some of these aircraft have yet to arrive at IAH... and, given the current situation, may very well not do so for some time to come.

Do anyone know if any CO flights have been diverted to LBB? or have most been diverted to airports a bit closer?

Because of the rain in IAH today, CO cancelled 400 flights to/from IAH.

Has DFW or DAL gotten any extra flights? I would assume AF would put their flights into DFW due to Delta's hub at DFW.

A lot of local airports are getting IAH/HOU diversions. These include MSY, DAL, DFW, SAT, BPT, AUS, and EFD. Ellington is especially significant as for a while during the downpours last night EFD was getting heavy commercial traffic.
