CX has advertised that all their aircraft have PTVs so I guess the 330s do..

Yes. I have flown on many a CX A330 and they all have PTV's.

They sure do.

All CX 330's have PTV's, but check the equipment used to DPS...it may very well be aircraft type. I flew there and back on a 340.

I flew PER-HKG-PER last April in J-Class while accompanying my dad on a business trip and has basically been my only experience on CX. On both flights, I was aboard the A330s and yes, they all do have PTVs throughout the cabin but whether they work is another thing. On both flights, the system was temperamental. The A330s were in a very bad way when I flew last April and are in desperate need for refurbishment. They look so old and tatty. The green had faded and looked third world. My seat got jammed in the reclined position with the leg-rest out so I had to change seat but Cathay's food & service especially is absolutely brilliant. I believe the A340s are a better aircraft to fly aboard with CX as they aren't regional workhorses like the A330 so if you have the choice of an A340 over an A330, take it!

The A340s leased from Air China do not have PTVs, although they will leave the fleet in the coming months anyway, to be replaced by 3 ex-SQ A340s, which will be exclusively used on the HKG-JFK route, when it starts.....until next year when these in turn will be replaced by A340-600s.

Would CX use the A346 in HKG-JFK first or HKG-YYZ first?

The A346s will be exclusively be used on the JFK route, although in between they would probably do a few other shorter routes.

My Dad just brought me back the Cathay In-flight entertainment Guide – and Cathay's STUDIOcx seems to be very impressive.

As a general rule of thumb, I think only Cathay's leased aircraft (Air China A340s and select B777s) do NOT have in-seat video.

On the B777s (with in-seat video) and A330s, only Business Class has video games (Economy simply has video and audio capabilities).

On the A340s and B747-400s (the mainstay of Cathay's longhaul fleets), I think almost all have been reconfigured to provide in-seat video. Those that currently do have it also have video game capabilities (even in Economy).

Hope this Helps!
