Monarch A300-600R, What A P.o.s.

Sun Jun 10, 2001 10:35 am

Today at work, our crew worked on a Monarch A300-600R registration G-MONR with GE powerplants. This plane was falling apart, literally. I went to go and open both cargo doors and they took about 2-3 minutes to open all the way up. Then when we tried to get the cans out they moved so slow we would have been better off pushing them. Hold 5 was a mess and the nets used to separate compartments looked like someone tied two castnets together. Are all A300's this way? The only Airbus I'm used to working on is the A330-200.

Hi Tony,
I wouldn't judge the airworthiness of an aircraft by the state of it's cargoholds, they take a lot of hard knocks from cans etc..

Monarch maintin very high standards of maintenance, and are responsible for maintenance on the aircraft of Monarch, Airtours, JMC Airlines and LTU - among others. They also perform all heavy maintenance on Continental's 757 fleet and are responsible for maintenance of bmi british midland's new A330 fleet.

They've been in business since 1968, so they must be doing something right!

Monarch provides maintenance on CO's 757's? Do they fly them all over to europe to get serviced?

Continental's 757 have their heavy maintenance performed in Monarch's hangars Luton and Manchester.
Hawaiian and Continental DC-10 heavy maintenance is performed by FLS Aerospace in Manchester.
FedEx are now also starting to send A310s to Manchester for heavy maintenance.

A good overhaul deal can easily outweigh the cost of flying an emply plane accross the pond.
