Sunways And Blue Scandinvia, Any Memories?

Sun Jun 10, 2001 6:17 pm

Hopefully some of you remember, and have flown with the two former Sweedish charter airlines: Blue scandinavia, and Sunways.

Sunways opperated B757 and Md83 to North Afrivca and Mediteranian areas. my parents once flew their Md83, which was Horrible. The agent form the travel agency had to do the safty briefings, and seat pitch was almost nothing.
They went out of bussines in 1997/98 because they weren't allowed to fly due to poor mainteans/safty.

Blue Scandinavia opperated one L1011-1 and B757 to Southern Europe and North Africa. I was supposed to fly them in 1998, but weeks before my flight, BLX became Britannia Sweeden. I think that's sad, because BLX looked quite nice.

Hope you have experiences to share

Sunways were a Turkish airline. I flew MD83 BHX-DLM-BHX, tthought the flight was good apart from severe turbulence over Germany. The tour company that owned them, went bust, so Sunways went out of Business.
When you hear the noise of the Tartan Army Boys, we'll be coming down the road!

Are you sure about this: "The tour company that owned them, went bust, so Sunways went out of Business.".
It might be true, but if I remember right, Sunways chesed oppertions in Scandinavia due to problems with the sweedish "FAA" (don't know the real name)

I flew ARN-CHQ (Chania, Crete) with Blue Scandinavia in 1997 and it was a standard charter flight. But at least the crew was nice.

That particular aircraft had an in-flight electrical fire a few days later with an emergency landing, so for our return flight they used a Nordic European L1011. The NEA aircraft was not nice at all. Dirty old seats and the ceiling panels were almost falling down from the ceiling. At takeoff and on climbout there were so much vibrations that I really thought the whole thing would break apart!

I m fond of sunways because they were the first jet I went on. It was an MD-83 from Manchester to Istanbul@seat 37A-which has a very large engine a couple of inches outside the window which was scary as hell! It was also five hours late: lkeaving at 12 pm, and i had left newcaslte at 11pm the night before so I was very tired when I got to IST. We came back on a Pegasus 734.
I remember that one of their planes was impunded at LGW and some people were left waiting in NCL for 24 hours! Shame they went bust as the were so cheap! And still there is no regular charter to IST from UK which is cheap. Saying that IST is my favourite place-i really really miiss Sunways!!
