Which Carrier Still Uses The 4 Series Of The 747?

Mon Jun 11, 2001 1:16 pm

I want to know if there is any carrier that still uses the 4 series of the 747

I think of Japan Airlines or Air France
they have ordered the 741, 742, 743, 744

Iberia operates 742, 743
BA 742, 744
LH 742, 744
NW 742, 744, they retired the last 741 and never ordered the 744

KLM 742, 743 and 744 all still in service (even though the website does not mention the 200s anymore, they were converted to have the same interior including stretched upper deck as do the 300s...). The first were ordered in 1969, I guess these must have been 100s?

You forgot the 747SP.

Corsair of France operates 1 747SP, 1 B747-100, 2 B747-200's, and 3 B747-300's.

From the desert to the sea, to all of Southern California

Qantas had five variants, B747-38SP, -238, -238SCD, -338 and -438 in service simultaneously, however the -238SCDs have been converted for all-passenger use, reducing the series to four. The airline never owned -100s, but they have been leased from Aer Lingus and Evergreen.

NW never ordered the 744? Did Boeing just decide to build some for them and make them the launch customer? The first revenue 744 flight was MSP-PHX-LAX-MSP on, you guessed it, NW.

Current operators:
AC, CA, AF, AI, Air Namibia, TZ, NH, AN, Asiana, Atlas, BA, Cargolux, CX, CI, LY, EVA, Fiji International, GA, JL, KL, KE, KU, LH, MH, NW, Polar, QF, RAM, SV,SA, SQ, TG, UA, VS.

Past operators:
Canadian, Condor, Phillipines, UTA

SAA still operates B744, B743, B742 and B74SP.
At one time it operated the B741. I wouldn't be surprised that in the early 1990's it operated all five versions! (after receiving the B744 and before retiring the B741).

KLM never had 747-100's. Their first was a 747-206B, PH-BUA "Danube" l/n 19922 del. 01/16/1971 and retired with America West Airlines as N531AW and subsequently broken up at IGM.

Of their ordered 747-206B's they retired seven by now, PH-BUA, PH-BUB, PH-BUC, PH-BUD, PH-BUE, PH-BUG and PH-BUP and wrote off one, the ill fated PH-BUF at Tenerife.

Ten 747-206B's are stille in service as well as three 747-306's and twenty-one 747-406's.

ANA had the 742 and 743 earlier I think. And now the 744.

Excluding SP operators, only JL purchased 747-100/200/300/400 versions new from Boeing. The AF 743's were inherited from UTA.

QF one summer many years ago operated all versions although the sole 741 was operated in EI colors.

SA to my knowldege never operated 741's. SV may have operated 742's, but these weren't ordered new.

ETA Unknown,

This is from Bill Harms site,

As the US tail number is a Boeing delivery registration, I guess that you are wrong!
