BA Concorde Service To JFK

Mon Jun 11, 2001 9:51 pm

According to BA homepage (Schedules) the Concorde service will start again 1st August. But at the same time it is written: "As from 15 August 2000 all Concorde services have been suspended".

Is there anybody who knows if and when BA will start up Concorde service to JFK again.

If they can clear regulatory hurdles, which might happen this summer, than the route will resume.

I think that botyh BA and AF is doing everything they can to get thei Concordes back in the air. A plane on the ground doesn't make any money, so they want them back in the air.
From the time that AF Concorde crashed they target was to have them back in the air by the summer this year, then by the end of the summer and the latest I heard was by Christmas.
I really hope that we can see the Concorde in the air sooner then that.

My educated guess is by September!!! although October would not surprise me.

From the Outside, and from what BA having being saying to the press over the last few months, I would say we would be looking at the following:

Late June ground test / test flights of 1st mod aircraft (G-BOAF)
July - CofA returned after tests
Early August - 2nd Aircraft completed(G-BOAG)
Mid September - 3rd Aircraft completed (G-BOAE)

Services start Late Spetember.

The only thing I have no clue about is where we are with the cabin refits, how long this will take and how it fits inot the equation. It could be aircraft 1 and 2 are done with the 3rd being done when aircraft 4 is flight ready.

Lets see

As far as Sabre shows, Concorde service is back in for 1AUG. However, that doesn't mean it's 100%.

All the dates quoted are highly speculative.
The cabin refit will comprise of new seats, carpets and other decor. The new toilets are for next year, along with the other more involved parts of the refit.
To be honest, until a fully-modified aircraft has been test-flown, other tests completed successfully and the C of A returned, it's really not worth speculating about services.

GDB,

Thanks for the info in the internals, so we won't see the fancy lighting changes that should happen at mach1.0 until later.
This would mean that the basic fittings can be put in PDQ when the CofA is given back?

My Dates were from piecing together from what BA, Michellin and the Working group have said to the press in the past few weeks, eg Working group said last week that they expect BA test flight with in weeks and BA said few weeks ago that it was taking longer but other would take around 6 weeks for the other aircraft. The BIG unknown if if the tests will be successful or not, or if other work will be needed. This is just pure speculation.

Only time will tell.

My only worry is that additional work may be needed on some of the fleet as they have been left out in the London winter, so could need some repair work as Concorde is used to being very dry due to high temperatures during the supersonic cycle.

I am waiting for the time when one of Concordes troublesome rudders or elevons seperates again at mach2, as they are made from a bonded material. As we all know it is not a big issue at all, but the press will love it!!

The fleet have been maintained throughout, to keep them in a near operational condition. This involves inspections as well as engine-runs, hydraulic, air system, flight-controls and other functions. Two a/c (OAA and OAB), are stored as they will be the last to be modified, and were due routine heavy maint. at the time of the grounding, but they also have their own maintenance programme.
3-4 of the aircraft are hangared at any one time.

Thank you for all the answers.

I have been checking things up my self. According to BA homepage, and Amadeus.net, BA will start Concorde service to JFK again on Aug 1st.

Great news for all aviation fans.

I think this 1st Aug date comes from the date the the BA on-line bookings systems allowed Concorde bookings to made for, so people put 2+2 together.

It is just an arbitary date for the computer system to be ready for I suspect and nothing else.

Is there a feeling that BA wil tell us a few days before it happens that they with will fly OAF?
