Airbus A-318 And A-380

Wed Jun 13, 2001 11:16 pm

Forgive me if this has been duscussed recently, but I'm not having any luck pulling this up the topic search.

My questions is; has the actual construction begun on the the Airbus A-318 and the much hyped A-380? I know that at one time there were questions raised concering even getting a jetway up the entry door of a A-318 without striking the engine, and there was also some controversy conceerning the runway length/and or factory size in Tolouse France. But again, has the first peice of metal been cut yet on any of these two new planes?

The A318 is in the process of being actually built right now. It's first flight is expected later this year. I have no idea if there is any real problem regarding the jetway and engine with the A318. There have not been any orders since last year though, whatever that means.

The A380 is of course not being built yet. Construction should begin in 2004 in preperation for it's first flight in 2005.

The A318 prototype should fly late this year or early next year. Airline service is expected to begin late 2002. The thing is goofy looking - the tail is outlandish. but I don't think the jetway problem will be much of an issue, as you can see from the picture.

I read an article that Airbus has started recieving either the first fuselage sections, or the tooling to build them - I'm not sure which. But the construction stage has definately begun.
