Age Limit To Become Flight Attendant

Thu Jun 14, 2001 5:15 pm

What is the average age limit to be employed as flight attendant? I am 30 and I heard it is too late to start this experience.
Do you know if any airlines employ F.A. also for short term assignements (6 to 12 months)?

tks

That must be a Brit rule.

I seem to vaugly recall a couple of U.S. F/A's that where working well past that age. It was big news when they finally did retire.

In the US, in most cases age limits went out the door. The reasons where

A: The sortage of people
B:The frequency of Age Discrimination Lawsuits.

Well, if we are going to get a bit personal on Nationality... the those rules must be Yank Rules.

Talk about exploiting people to their death for the dollar.

No you guys, this was news in the USA airline circles a while back as these people who had retired at other jobs wanted to start a F/A job just to see the what happens in the world outside their old cubicle at their old company. The last really big story I heard around here is that a pilot had some doubts about how a flight attendant who was in her mid seventies could perform required duties in an emergency and she was taken away from the flight. There is nothing written nor legal about exploiting people to their death for a dollar. Most all workers here in the USA have a choice as to whether they want to come to work or not no matter their age (except pilots aged 60+). There is no place here legally for indentured servitude and a person can go from job to job no matter their age if that's what they prefer.

I have several application forms for a f/a at home. I will check them... I am sure that one of them states a rule for age limits.

BA FOREVER.....

I wasn't trying to pick a nationality fight.

I was just making note that there is more then one set of rules out there. Not everybody is playing by the same book..

No hard feelings ok?

Gee let me check my ID to see if I was born yesterday! 6 offers for what? Not to fly them? You have a very flip attitude. Learn some respect for others.

I have respect... just for those who desrve it.

Now, respect. This comes from a 'guy' who is accusing me of lack of respect and a 'flip' attitude. You also doubt my integrity.... can you comment on peoples respect for others??

And YES, I had offers for a flight attendants with 6 major airlines. I would suggest that you do check your ID badge as clearly you have a problem understanding English.

Notdownlocked summed it up nicely....heck if your only 30, start flying Shanti....Delta has an 81 year old flight attendant who can still run with the best of them.

RE:LaxFlyer-what An Attitude

no wonder you have the word 'lax' in your user anme when you clearly are being very lax with the rules of airlines. BA forever doesnt have a flip attitude, he simply responded to some on else and they then reached an understanding. This thread didnt need your four pennies worth but since you have started then im going to finish this off.

I would check that Id badge of yours, looks like your younger than you claim-thats clear from your childish remarks-or maybe your are older as only old people have an attitude which thinks they are superior to others?

I notice you havent responded and backup your statements, typical.

PS-there is an upper age limit on many airlines, BA was just stating this,British Airways along with VG and many others DO have an upperage limit.

In the US, there is NO "law" restriction on flight attendant ages (starting or retiring)....most large jet operators require f/as to be 21 or higher (commuters usually start at 18 or 19). As a 28 year old f/a.....trust me......you will still be one of the youngest out there at 30.....
