Visit In Cockpit In US Carrier?

Thu Jun 14, 2001 10:44 pm

I am going to be flying NWA 742 in two weeks. Flight from MSP to AMS. I would like to visit cockpit, and, if its posible, stay there during touchdown to take some pics. is that going to be posible? I have naver tried to visit cockpit in any US airlines.
I also conitnue from AMS to WAW, but this is operated by KLM, and i already know that KLM allowes cockpit visits.

regards,
PolAir.

Due to FAA regs (applicable to any US-registered airline), you won't be able to visit NWA's flight deck while inflight.

Good luck with KLM...and enjoy the view...  Big grin

You should be able to visit the flight deck while on the ground. I sat in one for almost 3 hours in a Delta MD-90 in Reno a few years ago. (The plane was broken for those hours, so that's why I was able to sit there for so long.) Like OPNLguy said though, you probably won't be able to visit the flightdeck while in flight. Maybe you'll get lucky though. Good luck and have a nice trip!

Even some crews I have talked to say they wouldn't mind having an enthusiast in the flight deck during the flight. They say the FAA is way too overprotective. DOWN WITH THE FAA RULE!!!

Some US pilots don't want the rule changed as it might interfere with the free taxi service enjoyed by fellow pilots. All you gotta do is show up at the gate, see the driver and chances are pretty good you can bum a ride.

Do FAA rules apply to US carriers when out of US airspace? If not, you may get to visit the frontoffice for part of the flight...
I wish I were flying

The FAA regs apply to us even over seas. If you are on a US registered airline it does not matter where you are, most follow the Company Op Specs. These are drawn up under the FARS, which do not allow passengers into the cockpit in flight. Sorry, but there is no way around this rule. I doubt they can ssneak you in, if they were caught they would almost certainly be fired and fined by the FAA, along with the airline.
