PIA A310-300 To Toronto?

Fri Jun 15, 2001 12:36 am

Have PK introduced the A310 on their re-routed Toronto flights, or is it still plying 747s on the service? Smile/happy/getting dizzy

PK are currently flying the A310 to YYZ once a week (KHI-LHE-AMS-YYZ) until July 10. Then the PK will fly twice a week to YYZ.

This is nuts. Why the hell do they fly from Karachi to Lahore or Islamabad first? Can't they fly Karachi-London-Toronto? I bet the London sector is always full for Karachi.

I agree with you goofy it does not make sense. It would be more economical if PIA had more direct flights out of Karachi and had frequent connections to Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar etc...

Sorry fogot to add this. More direct flights would mean that flight delays are less common to.

Pia had the London-North American flying rights back in the 1970's--at that time they lost them and have never gotten them back--they have tried on a number of occasions since then and the best they could manage was Manchester-NYC which started up in April of 2000!!

Correction, PIA are flying the A310's twice a week to YYZ. Tuesday's and Friday's, no more 747's.

I dont think theres enough load on any of PIAs international flights anymore (excluding Gulf routes) to justify direct KHI-XXX city services therefore the stops at ISB and LHE, excuse my lingo but i find it to be utter "Chutiapa" Smile

Yes, you are right Airmale.

I am flying with PIA this July to Karachi. But the flight stops in Islamabad before continuing its journey to Karachi.

This is because passengers departing from Manchester are mostly flying to Islamabad and not Karachi. There is not a big enough market for it to become just a Karachi only service.

Although PIA do have one flight on Thursday, direct to Karachi from Manchester.

Do you know how many frequencies PIA has in total out of MAN ?

GF-A330, I think PIA have 11 weekly flights to MAN from Pakistan, 6 of these onward to JFK and the rest terminate at MAN. This is one more flight than LHR, which has 10 weekly flights.

I could remember in the good old days when PIA started operations in Manchester. They only had twice weekly flights to Islamabad.

GKirk....Any idea when PIA started flights out of MAN ?

Hello
Did PIA fly to Zurich and continue to North America from that? What happen to it now? I don't even see PIA anymore here.

I read about those PIA services to YYZ in July 2001 edition of "Airliner World", those are flown with A310. PIA also once had the Europe - North America route rights but lost them in the '70s.

The stops in Northern Pakistan allow the carrier to pick up/discharge passengers in southern and northern Pakistan for services to/from Toronto. A Pakistan - London - Toronto routing is not authorized under the bilaterals of these countries.

PIA did not lose their rights to operate to North America via Europe they just re-routed the flights out of UK and for some time through Ireland as Technical ones in 99-2000, other wise they used to fly to the US via France, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Italy and Greece even Turkey, perhaps they lost the rights to fly London-USA.I dont think they flew via Zurich which they quit in '98 Smile

So PIA quit Zurich two years ago. I think they'd fly here and continue their flight to Toronto a few years ago. I guess they want to pick up more passengers from the U.K.
