What Routes Are Needed The Most?

Sat Jun 16, 2001 4:28 pm

What are needed the most? speaking of expansion at
airports like MIA,JFK,IAH etc.. what would be the
money makers?
AA-MIA-BRU?
AA-MIA-NRT?
AA-JFK-NRT
UA-MIA-LHR?
"The low fares airline."

From MIA, MIA-BRU, which should be coming within a year, MIA-NRT non-stop (currently one-stop on AA), but, most importnatly, MIA-TLV non-stop (currently one-stop on LY). And how about MIA-BHM (Birmingham, Alabama).

Kansas City (MCI) needs non-stops to Miami. American should launch them, I'm sure they'd be profitable, Southwest and Delta Express must be making a fortune on KC-Florida flights, American needs some non-stops to compete! I like Delta and Southwest better, but I just think MIA non-stops are needed here. Just my 2 cents.

JFK - PSE
JFK or EWR to YYC
Any NYC airport to Havana (for more reasons than one!)
JFK or EWR to BEG (will probably happen again)
NYC - AUS (don't know if this is a logical choice but Austin is growing)
Perhaps an RJ LGA - TYS ? Good way to get to Dollywood.

(Note to self, *Why* doesn't Gordon Bethune return my calls?)

Well since I love LAX...don't know if these routes would make money though....

UA LAX-EZE: Although the Argentinian economy is bad and demand may not be that high, I think there is a need for a route since AR has pulled out. LAX I think would be a good connection point for travelers from Asia to EZE.

LAX-Madrid

LAX-Bru (does Citybird still fly this route?)

LAX-FCO

Csavel, there are numerous flights operated daily between New York City, as well as Miami, to Cuba. Out of MIA, for example, United, American, Mexicana, Falcon, and Continental all fly to Havana (CO is twice daily, not sure about the rest). American also flies to Santiago de Cuba and Falcon flies also to Camaguay. Out of JFK, I think it is American operating the Havana flights. Of course, scheduled flights cannot be operated between the US and Cuba, but charters can, so while all these flights between NYC/Miami and Cuba are scheduled, they are charters.

Aero, I agree. Vanguard used to fly MIA-MCI. Whatever happened to that service? Anyone know? Does DL fly MCI-FLL?

CO could probably support daily 767's to EZE and SCL nonstop.

MAH4546. I should have specified regularly scheduled in the case of NYC Havana, wasn't counting charters. But I believe that they are scheduled charters, correct?

Yes, they are regularly scheduled charters (at least the ones on MIA-HAV and JFK-HAV; don't know about flights to Santiago de Cuba, Cienfuegos, and Camaguey), in fact, Continentel's two daily MIA-HAV flights don't even have a charter flight number. Regularly scheduled flights won't come for a while.

I don´t think another JFK-NRT flight is needed.
The route is served by UA,NW,DL, JL, NH and CO from EWR. AA codeshare JL double daily flights.

As for MIA-NRT, this could happen, a 777 could easily perform the route and currently AA offers direct service vía SEA.

As for LAX a connection to MAD is needed. AA or IB should start the route soon,

BOS-NRT, and BOS-MEX would be nice, there are thousands of mexicans going to BOS vía ORD with UA or vía ATL, IAH or DFW with DL,CO,and AA.

BOS-NRT maybe NW or UA should start the route. DL lacks of aircraft to start it and AA should evaluate the route.

stl-nrt: TW had the authority, but no aircraft. Hope AA
flies the route.
stl-fra: TW was supposed to start this year, before the
buyout was announced.
jfk-hnl: CO flies ewr-hnl, why not AA out of jfk?

Here are some routes which are needed very urgent. Others you can take from an older thread I started in December 2000.

Route / frequencies / aircraft / airline
-----------------------------------
DUS-NRT / 4 times weekly / MD11 / Japan Airlines
DUS-JNB-CPT / 2 times weekly / A340 / Lufthansa
SXF-MUC-JNB / 4 times weekly / 747-400 / SAA
SXF-HKG / 3 times weekly / A340 / Cathay Pacific
TXL-BKK-SIN / 4 times weekly / A340 / Lufthansa
TXL-HKG-TPE / 4 times weekly / A340 / Lufthansa
MUC-HKG-TPE / 5 times weekly / A340 / Lufthansa
CGN-FCO / daily / CRJ / Lufthansa
CGN-GVA / 2 times daily / Saab 340 / Crossair
CGN-SDQ / 1x weekly
CGN-POP-PUJ / 1x weekly

best regards,  Smile

Stockholm has very few routes flying to Asia
Stockholm ARN to YYZ and SIN and Japan
Copenhagen CPN to SFO or LAX
It would be great to see Air Canada flying into Arlanda, I especially like its Airbus 340.

Iberia tried LAX-MAD and it was not very succsesful. A large percent of the traffic between the US and Spain comes from Miami and New York City.

Skychuck, I wouldn't look for AA to start many international services out of STL, aside from the "BIG THREE" (LGW, CDG, and FRA; I know they have LGW, I think they have CDG). The NRT route authoirty, if ever used, would more likely be moved to DFW, ORD, MIA, JFK, or maybe BOS.

MAH4546, good point but also Iberia flew this route a few years back, when maybe demand wasn't that high. While LAX-MAD will never generate the traffic like MIA-MAD, I think the route could be successful with the right type of aircraft. Didn't Iberia use a 747 on the route? If so, then probably there was overcapacity. But with a airplane like the A340 or 767/777, operated maybe 3-4 times a week, I think the flight would be successful.

Despite the fact that Spain is one of the world's three most visited countries (along with France and the US), the Spain-US market seems to rely mostly on business, friends visiting family, etc., and, of course, connections between Iberia's MIA and MAD hubs. The reason I heard for IB ending MAD-LAX was that the Spanish population in Southern California was mostly Mexican, and had little intrest in traveling to Spain. Though, maybe your right, maybe three daily A343 flights could work.

From Detroit we need:
DTW-Seoul
DTW-HKG
DTW-Manilla
DTW-Dubai
***These are current routes that need big upgrades:
DTW-CDG(NW DC-10's are flying packed daily, we need AF!)
DTW-LHR(BA has already tried to get a second daily flight)
DTW-NRT(Once again, packed 744's daily)
.....and possibly
DTW-AMS(5 daily flights, and I think NW/KLM wants to add flights when the New Terminal opens.
Also with the 757ERX:
DTW-Manchester
DTW-Milan
DTW-Dublin
DTW-Brussels
DTW-Madrid
DTW-Lisbon??????
etc.

I think the 4 corners of the Pacific Northwest need more service. SEA-PDX-BOI-GEG. Only Horizon and United Express flies between all four points. I think it would be great to fly Southwest on PDX-SEA.

MHT-MIA
MHT-IAH
MHT-ORD (on AA)
MHT-JFK
MHT-LAX (when the expansion is finished)
