Air Canada's B 744s Will They Be Replaced Soon?

Tue Jun 19, 2001 9:12 am

Hey guys!

As many of you guys said, Air Canada is planning to replace its B 747-400 Combis with either the A 340-500 or the B 747-400 Pax.

However, I haven't heard much from them. Can anyone tell me whether or not they are going to replace their B 747-400 Combis? If yes, what are they going to replace them with? A345s? A 346s? Or the B 747-400 Pax?

I doubt they need the A 380, since they do not have that many passengers. However, they will definitely keep the High Capacity B 747-400s from Canadian Airlines. What do you guys think?

I think all B747-400 are going to be replaced by A340-500/600.

But during the Canadian Airlines' era, the flight between Vancouver and Taipei (perhaps, Hong Kong and Tokyo) are always full. So A380 might work for these routes.

I still can't believe that Air Canada has downgraded from B747 to A340 for Taipei flights.

Hey UA,

AC has'nt been really happy with the 744 combi. It is range restricted, and they have had problems with the a/c in general. The 400's did not turn out to be as good as the 200 combi's. Yes, the 400's can take more weight, but the 200's are better stucturally.
I have'nt heard anything at work about us getting rid of the 400 combi's at this point, but it would'nt surprise me to see this happen in the next couple of years.
AC needs to make sure that it has enough planes on hand. If they get rid of three 744's, they may end up shorthanded.
Just my thoughts.
Cheers!

But there is NO SIGN that they are replacing them. So WHEN are they going to replace them and WHAT are they going to replace them with?

Good bye B747-437B FOR NOW!  Smile  Smile  Smile  Smile

Boeing747-400, half and half! I am asking a question too. So do not throw crumbs at me or I shall take you to the pond some day. (J/K)

Jiml1126, the A 380 may work for the TPE-YVR route. Or they may combine the two daily flights to HKG with one A 380.

Anyway, let's get back to the question.

What about a mixture of B 747-400/400ER Passenger Config (They have stated that they are interested in the FULL Pax Config B 744).

And a mixture of A 380 and A 346 maybe?

Jonathanlo:

No they are not going to do that. They need them. They are still using the B 744 for the HKG-YVR route.

My understanding is the combi's will go and the ex CP 400's will stay( due to their pax capacity). The 340-500 is not a replacement for the -400 and there are no 340-600's on order anymore.

Des, seeing that AC is the tenth or eleventh largest airline in the world, I don't see how you can make such a comment.

Please go Air Canada's website and check...
on July 1st they will start using A340-300 for Toronto-Vancouver-Hong Kong Route....
no more 747-400....
and they change the flight number to AC 7 not AC 3007

Tue Jun 19, 2001 12:49 pm

Hmmm, they have switch some of the ex CP routes to AC aircrafts and crews. They are even crewing AC aircraft with CP crew on one of its YVR-HKG flt. Now a lotta AC FAs are really mad as they are being treated so badly. I'm not sure but what I think is that AC is trying to satisfy the CP crews and speed up the senority intergration process. I have heard that AC is interested in ordering more B744 all PAX, but too bad I guess nothing will happen until they have the FAs fully merged and they start to post profits.

By the way, what do you guys think abt the intergration of AC and CP FAs? Does anyone have any idea when it'll be sorted out?

Thx!  Smile

Wolfy

I like the B-777 idea but don't count out the A-340/500. My question is what aircraft will make the most money for aircanada.....that is your answer. They are now trying to get the most bang for their buck and that takes time. They seem to be switching aircraft for this YVR-??? route. They are seeing what aircraft can handle and maybe free up another one that will make more money. Its simple really, they have the diversity to shuffle their inventory of aircraft around Canada and assemble thier winning combination of aircraft. If they feel that the A380 is needed and will be more profitable, than they should get one.

Crj-900: There seems to be something about AC going back to its original plans to order A30-500s and -600s. I found this piece of info archived under June 13 in the Canadian Aviation News website, whose URL is shown below:

http://www.canairradio.com/pianews.html

However, I do agree that AC may actually keep the full passenger 744s because of the high capacity needed for Asian routes out of Toronto and Vancouver. As for the Combis, I'm not too sure though.

Originally, the 3 x B-747-400s were to be replaced with 3 x A340-600s. With the integration of Canadian Airlines, the B-747-400s will stay a while longer and the order for A340-600s has been switched to additional A340-500s.

Will Boeing_nut be replaced by Airbus_nut anytime soon?  Nuts  Nuts  Nuts

If they are not ordering the A 340-600, then there is a good chance that they will either replace the B 744 Combis with B 747-400/400ER Pax or the A 380.

They may keep the B 744 Combis. Who knows?  Smile

Didn't AC rescheudule it's twice daily YVR-HKG services to both afternoon departures...?
anyways.......AC will keep CP's 744's for sure.....but A380 has been discused in this form b4.....It's a long shot.....I really want to see both the A340-500's and -600's...
as for those combis......
Should AC convert them to all cargo and start cargo services...? (just a thought)
