United Spanking New Interior...Bulkhead!

Wed Jun 20, 2001 4:49 am

Hello all,

I knew this pic would be too low quality to be admitted, but it is a very rare foto I would like to share with you!

Here we have the finalized new NEW new bulkhead design to be implemented fleet wide on United.

This is taken from F-Class, seat 3B, in one of UA's oldest 320 birds flying.

Greg: If you werent interested, why did you even read it? Let alone posting such a sarcastic response.

I actually think it looks pretty good for a UAL plane. Thanks for sharing it with us Imkeww.

I flew on a new (circa 2000) 767-322 DEN-LAX 2 months ago, and I think that had the new interior. But I have to say it looks better in your photo than it did in person.

Honestly, what makes the photo rare, and what makes the bulkhead so special?

I'm just curiour (and confused).

The foto is rare because it features the relatively brand new bulkhead design that will be featured on all UAL aircraft from now on. This is just one element of the finalized new interiors.

I love every little detail about airline cabin decor, so that's why its of special importance to me.

The gray is actually more of a shiny, metallic silver. It's just that my crapass (pardon mon french) digital camera can't capture that quality.

At least it is consistent with the plane exterior now =)

BTW, I appreciate your appreciation NAAcrew!

767-322: It could very well be. ILUV767 was on a very new domestic 767 the other day, and it had the blue checkered seats (since rejected) with the new (finalized) grey carpet. Do you recall what your liner's interior was like???

Sorry,

I am also very confused. This is just a photo in a plane. Could be UA, CA, AC, CX, NW, or anyone else for that matter. Please explain why this is so special.

I'm not being rude I just dont see whats special.

Looks like the same old plastic gray or off white I have seen on every other aircraft I have flown on in the last ten years whether it be first class or coach.

I explained why it was so special if you read my last post.

Before you waste my time and yours, read what you find interesting. If you don't find it interesting, then don't reply. Simple. Capiche???

ImKeww, were you perhaps being sarcastic?

From my perspective, this laminate looks rather cheap. They could have done a number of things, including the tapestries with the horizontal blue and grey lines that they were sporting earlier. But, if this is what it is going to be, then, it seems that United just cut another corner.

You'd think they would at least try to match AA's sense of style. In AA's new interior scheme, the bulkheads are tapestried in a pattern resembling their new ticket counters. Quite professional and original.

No matter how boring, it is still intersting to see what new things airlines have in store for us.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Imkeww was sharing something with all of you that he felt was important, and you knock him for it.

Bicoastal: your comment was very immature coming from someone between the age of 36-45. I get this feeling that Imkeww has much more maturity at his age than you do at yours. If you are such an aviation enthusiast, try and show some respect to others who enjoy the same things as you do.

It seems that no matter how long a member has been here or how many posts they have applied, they miss one simple point...

If you don't like or don't understand the topic, move on.

Isn't that simple enough?

Just ignore what you've read or seen and go to another topic.

However, if you like to see your name in lights or see your posting numbers increase, by all means, post something negative.

That is way more than enough said.

Bicoastal:

I know Imkeww personally. He is one of the smartest people on this forum. Look at his posts. He makes very true remarks, and puts a lot of thought into his posts, unlike you. I've seen you slam and attack anyone that posts anything thoughtful.

Let's sort things out here.

First, let me thank the users who believe in civil a.net board behavior. Thanks.

However, I feel compelled to --how do they say-- "flame" you, bicoastal. Irreverence is the word early this morning.

The one comment that really set the house lights afire was that about me being under 20. So I suppose that 20 is the magic age of enlightenment? It is totally laughable to see you predicate such a pathetic attempt at condescension.

Why don't you just get back to sipping your cheap wine.

Ladevale: I know our online paths have crossed every once in a while, and I know enough to tell that --in your eyes-- UA can do no good, and that AA will always one-up United. You may very well find AA's bulkheads appealing; I do as well, but I was not being sarcastic. The picture just does not do it justice, IMO.

It would look good with a United logo on the bulkhead, not just wasted gray space, or maybe a large United route map.

NO KIDDING...

Thu Jun 21, 2001 1:58 am

I am going to skip my thoughts on some of you strange people, and cut to the chase...

Why can't they put the double- U thing logo on the bulk head?? The old black/red/blue/orange wavy lines were... original, but out of date. But they were better than the banality I see here. I flew a UA 737-322 in MAy, and it had virtually NO bulkhaed design, just eggshell plastic... I was dissappointed.

When I saw the blue checked design a few weeks ago, I wrote a long post about how I thought it was terrible that UA now matches AA matches DL matches CO and so on. Let's not forget TWA, they match everybody. But this one looks worse. It's just... blue. Like everybody else. What the heck is up with that??

I will say, regarding the comments made about maturity, that a vast majority of members of this forum are below 20. I would say significantly below 20. Teahan. He's made several bad posts, but many many good, informative, factual threads. Well, I can't think of any others off the top of my head. Oh wait- there's... ME. I'm only 19. And as someone else so correctly pointed out, 20 is nothing special. I know many 25 year old that are horribly irresponsible.

And when you get down to it, some of the worst members on this site claim to be "30-45" or whatever that age category is. It's truly dissappointing.

Okay, that's my piece.

Randy,

I'm "merely" 19 as well. What college do you go to?

I'm sorry I never responded to your post about the disturbing lack of variety among the airlines. You did have a very good point. However, as their products are turning into more and more of a true commodity, differentiation will be slim. Hell, these "standardization" machinations are totally orchestrated: there was a summit last year between Boeing and the US majors, spearheaded by none other than United's Goodwin, regarding standard cabin fixtures in future airliners.

Hey, if you want to see a refreshing interior during this "I'm Blue" fixation, have a look at US Airway's cabin =)

IM or e-mail me sometime. Weren't you the one who was featured in the Legend article???

I flew on an A320 in first the other day, and it had the new bulkhead. I must say that it does look a lot better in person than in the photo. My only complaint is that since the cabin lights were dimmed, the bulkhead felt really dark. It made the cabin feel somewhat dark. But, it is ok. Its better than the orange, red, blue walls.

To all, you are absolutely correct. I should have been much more thoughtful than I was. I apologize. I took a very careful look at the interior of the aircraft...but still was somewhat confused since the person who praised the decor wanted those of us who contribute to this site
to view it for whatever purpose. I saw nothing unusual. That's all. Again, my apologies to all.
