Somebody in the hobby forum brought up the question of "where can I find some Live ATC to listen to"? ........
This also prompted me to search the never-ending web for possible good ATC places.
I found a great free one at this site ............
That Horton site has a fantastic link to New York JFK tower frequency!
Tune it in if you want to pass some time listening to virtually NON-STOP landings of heavy jets! Quite interesting. You can also hear the stress in the controllers' voices as they talk to the planes in Runway 22L's 20-plane-long queue.
I had only had it tuned in for about 5 minutes when I heard this unique exchange..............
"American 16 Heavy, Cleared to land, 22 Left.....Be advised, we have a report of some unknown debris on the runway, at taxiway Hotel. It's up to you as to whether you wish to continue approach."
American 16 (a Boeing 762) DID continue and land safely (said they saw no debris on runway). I don't imagine the American Captain would have been thrilled with being forced to go around after probably being stuck in a long line to land for a half hour or more.
Evidently nothing was on runway 22, because they did not shut it down. Several pilots got the warning, but all continued in.
