What Would You Like To Get On The A380?

Mon Jun 25, 2001 8:41 am

The A380 is basically designed to fly lots of passengers (555 in the -800 basic version) on long-haul flights (up to 8.000 Nm).
Unlike other airliners, this one has got room; not all airlines will fit this plane to accomodate its maximum capacity.

Richard Branson (Virgin's chairman) is already thinking about "flying casinos". Some others though about having a gym, bedrooms or a bar on board (doesn't it remind you of something?).

What would you like to get on the A380 you're going fly tomorrow?

Although these extras will be of a reduced area, do you think they might change the way people are appreciating long-haul flights?

Do you think passengers will choose this particular airline over a regular one just because of what they can get for entertainment?

All your ideas are welcome...

Regards

I'd like to see a lounge with a singer, piano player, drum kit/percussionist, bass player and saxophone player like in the old days!  Big thumbs up

I'd like to see your own arm rest, and 34-35 inches of pitch in coach. The rest is all BS.

Superfly...which old days are you talking about? Service on the Titanic? Cause if you want a band on board, you can try a Royal caribbean ocean liner.

I think it would be fun to have little mini-planes on board and you can get into them and fly outside by yourself and stuff....

How long do you think airlines will have all of these casinos, baseball stadiums, etc., before they start taking them out to cut costs?

You're right PanAm747, that's what happened to the 747.
On the other hand, do you think airlines will be able, on a regular basis, to fill up the double-decker at an average 75%, around 420 pax?

The airlines can promise all the "extras" on this plane as they did with the original 747. They had bars, and pianos, etec. But like the 747 the airlines will just cram more and more seats into the plane. They do not care about passeneger comfort, just profit.

You guys are right about airlines putting profits over comfort but I think the airlines will have a great IFE with PTVS and I think there will be louges like what VS has. I do believe that prayer rooms will be on the A380s owned by Emerates or any other Asian and Middle Eastern carriers planning to operate an A380. I do think that bedroom will be added to A380s owned by VS for first and business class only. But forget swimming pools and basketball courts and weight rooms. It'll eat into profits and CAT will make it impossible. Imagine the fatalities, injuries and lawsuits that'll follow.

Hmmm... I don't think free weights would work well on an airplane.

The difference between the time when the 747 was launched and now when the A380 will be launched is that there are routes out there that can support the number of passengers that the A380 can hold. Which did not exist at the time in 1970.

I can imagine some amenities that are somewhat rare becoming more commonplace. Bars or lounges may become the norm again for premium passengers. I could picture full sized bathrooms for premium pax as well... I don't know how well a shower would work though in an airplane. I somehow can't picture staterooms and the like... unless on very long haul flights where there are enough high paying passengers to justify the space for a half dozen or so rooms.

I do like Superfly's idea though... move the airport Holiday Inn lounge onto the plane, shag carpet and all.

the truth is stil that you make more money filling the room with seat and getting 300 per leg than having some slot machines.

Sleeper seats with Under floor showers and a full service bar. But under the wings I would want the Rolls Royce Trent 900 turbo fans and in the flight deck me in the left seat flying her.

personally, i'd like to see a strip club, with a good size vip room. they could charge you the vip prices when you buy your ticket! "you can get a vip bracelet for only 15 dollars more...." think of the benefits! and the pilots could just turn the autopilot on and have some good entertainment. that should keep them awake!

How about a driving range for us golfers, or a bowling alley? On the other hand, a strip club does sound pretty good. The only drawback of that is that the strippers would end up with all of my money before I even start my vacation!

OUT!

WORLD'S MOST SKYDIVERS AT A TIME!!!  Wow!
Other than that, filled capacity w/ people from O'hare, or Jumbojettum said a driving range, I say a championship golf course! Not quite, but maybe a huge Dave & Busters-type restaruant w/ miniature golf or something else, or maybe an entire aircraft of sleeper suites like the old railroad. BTW, what happens during
clear air turbulence?

The A380 willnever have the Piano bars, lounges, ets fo the first widebodies. Why? Simple economics. The 747/DC-10/L-1011 came along without a real market. The A380 has a market waiting right now. I can't wait to see one (well, I guess I have to), but it will be just another cattle car. Sad to say but true.

You have two choices, 1) Have an a/c packed with seats & have low airfares, or 2) have casino's etc and have expensive tickets

I remember reading about all the "extras" on the 747 in book once. As I recall, TWA had some of the coolest things in their 747 fleet in the '60s and '70s. Along with the interior, the FAs sometimes wore this gold-colored aluminuim foil-like dresses that looked like a garbage bag. I belive the caption for the photo said something like "Stewardess on TWA's 747 in first class occasionally wore this on the JFK to Paris route. I'd like to see the FAs wear these exotic dresses on the A380 and perhaps Boeing's Sonic Cruiser.

I am frequent flyer on intercontinental routes. The thing that I will appreciate most (in order of priority):

1.- higher speed, so I don't have to spend that many hours inside the airplane

2.- comfortable seat, with a lot of leg room

3.- plenty of easily accessible storage space for carry-on items

4.- 2x2x2 seat arrangement so you can always have a window or aisle seat

5.- few passengers so boarding and deplaning is FAST

Size and BS "amenities" restricted to high-price premium ticket passengers are definitely NOT on my priority list. For me, even the 747 is way too big. It may be funny if you travel ocassionally for vacations, but the ideal size for a frequent traveller is the 767.

First Class SIA seats for Raffles Pax
Private cabins with walls and bigger seats and guest seat for First Class
35 - 37" seat pitch for Y CLass pax (wider seats probably not possible as the A380 and 747 are the same width???)
Bars
Inflight Duty free mini-kiosk
Dunno now.
Anyone can fly, only the best Soar.

i still stand by my strip club idea. besides you know those jokers at icao and iata would be the first ones with tickets on the a-380 if it did have a 'gentlemen's club'. and i think the extra profits would outweigh the lost seats/fares.

I'm with you, Katekebo.

I fly transatlantic about once a month and I avoid 747's as much as I can. It takes too long to board and deplane, customs is a mess as a result of the # of pax flooding the area and waiting for your luggage seems like an eternity. Although I think the 777 is more comfortable, I usually op for a 767 when I can.

1.- A McDonald's?.....oh! but since this is an Airbus a "Quick" then.....with lots of Orangina.

2.- A strip club? (not a bad idea)

3.- A crying-baby proof section

4.- The option to choose from the Bitchy and not-so-bitchy F/A's section.
