This is THE An-225. One and only, finally returned to the air after 5 years. Antonov Design Bureau says it has enough parts to build another. This is the largest aircraft in the world. Don't know for sure, but I'd say this is about the size the A380 will be.

The A380 is only about the size of a C5-A Galaxy, An-225 is much bigger than both.

The An-225 has a larger wing-span and longer fuselage than the A380 and is in a larger size class. The tail's span is greater than a 737's wing span!

The AN225 is, and still will be the largest aircraft, even when we see the A380. The A380 will fit en a 80 x 80 m box. The wingspann of the AN225 is about 88 m.

Regarding MTOW the largest projekted A380 is about 583.000 kg, but the AN225 has a MTOW of 600.000 kg. As for the C5, AN124 and the B747 the MTOW is "only" arround 400.000 kg.

The payload of the AN225 is 250.000 kg. Thats more than a emty Boeing 747.

So the AN225 is, and still will be HUGE.

Agreed on all counts. It's the biggest. Here's my thing though: I was told on this here forum that all AN-225s were scrapped, did they build this one new or just not scrap it in the first place? I was really shocked to see it still up and about. What an awesome machine!!!

Yeah, it's the biggest, and it's the only one - they'll put them to serial production soon.

The An-225 spent most of the 1990's in storage, with a second example partially constructed. I know nothing of what happened to the incomplete second airframe, I assume it will be finished off now that type will go into production.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I thought the largest aircraft in the world would read something like:

1. An-225
2. An-124 Ruslan
3. Lockheed C-5 Galaxy
4. Boeing 747-400
5. Boeing 747 100/200/300

I assume after this five, the next largest types would be something like the 777, A340, A330 and the trijets (MD-11, DC-10, L-1011). Does anyone know which would be the largest out of the aircraft I've just mentioned?

Obviously the list will change when the A380 makes it's maiden flight.

AFAIK, Lockheed C-5 Galaxy is still slightly bigger (at least, longer) than An124, but with less payload.
