Southwest Announces New Service

Fri Jun 29, 2001 1:00 am

Glad to see my home airport, Hartford (BDL), getting additional flights. Looks like Florida will be a big ramp-up.

DALLAS, June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV - news) today announced it will add new daily nonstop and direct flights to key cities beginning this fall. (Direct service involves one or more stops, but no change of planes.) The service additions include:

``Southwest Airlines looks to add service in response to Customer demand in each of these city pairs,'' said Joyce Rogge, Southwest's senior vice president of marketing. ``We are committed to providing Positively Outrageous Service to our Customers, and these new flights will aid in that process.''

Southwest is introducing the carrier's new nonstop flights with an introductory fare of $99 each-way. Tickets are available for purchase through Oct. 28, 2001 on the above listed new nonstop flights only. Travel must be completed between Oct. 28 and Dec. 8, 2001. The following restrictions apply: the fares require roundtrip purchase with an overnight stay (any night); fares do not include airport-assessed passenger facility charges of up to $18 roundtrip and a federal tax of $2.75 per takeoff and landing; and tickets are nonrefundable but (except for tickets purchased through our Group Tickets program) may be applied toward future travel on Southwest Airlines. Tickets must be purchased at least seven days before departure and within one day of making reservations. Seats are limited and may not be available on some flights that operate during peak or holiday travel times. Fares are subject to change until ticketed, and any change in itinerary could result in an increase in the fare.

Thank you oh great Southwest gods/goddesses for OAK-MSY! That one was on my wish list for a long time.

Good to also see more service from SDF.

Would it be asking too much to get direct or (dare I even think it...) nonstop service from OAK-SDF?

Looks like we get another nonstop to Phoenix. That makes 7 daily nonstops between Columbus and Phoenix, including America West's 5 daily nonstops.

yeaaaaaaaaaaaa! SAT to RDU--now I can go visit friends who have been banished from the Great State of Texas to North Carolina. Plus, I will get to fly nonstop to see the Longhorns when they play UNC and NC State in football. I am so excited.

Now all I need is SAT-OAK nonstop. Maybe next year.

I agree WN boy, SAT-OAK has got to on the short list somewhere.

WN could clean up offering S.A.'s only n/s flight to Bay Area. Soon I hope as well.

FlyCMH,

looks like the CMH-PHX market is starting to look like PHX to Southern California near hourly service these days!

I'm getting ready to make a trip next week from OAK-LAX, then LAX-SDF on a separate flight (via PHX natch). Same thing on the return. WN had a $186 RT fare from Los Angeles to Louisville, then I combined a $60 RT anniversary fare from Oakland to Los Angeles. Not too bad, especially considering I get 8 Rapid Rewards credits.
