Air Canada Geriatric Replacements

Fri Jun 29, 2001 3:41 am

Air Canada now has many 737-200s to go along with its DC-9s. With these aircraft being the gas guzzlers as they are, I was curious as to what replacements AC is looking at?

The most logical would be an Airbus 318, wouldn't it? I mean, that way the engineering staff would have an easier time switching between aircraft due for maintainance. AC already has so many Airbuses to start with.

Perhaps the Boeing 717s? or some sort of Bombardier 90-100 seater?

I think that when it comes to the time to replace those Aircraft that they would order a mix of Airbus 320/319/318's but I would not count out the 717....I think Air Canada could have many uses for such a wonderful plane.

Airbus is already replaceing the dc-9s with a320 series aircraft (i thought they were done), theres no reason they would change. Basicly, in a A20 series fleet the a318 commonality beats out any slim operating economics advantages that the 717 might offer.

We have talked about this soo many times on this forum. The A318 is too heavy, and inefficient for the small airport operations that the 737/DC9's are doing. It hasn;t even flown yet. It is good for ac's common fleet but not exactly a shoe-in.
