Bigger Jets In Daytona During Nascar Days.

Fri Jun 29, 2001 8:18 am

I was wondering that in Daytona, during race weeks etc, does Delta or Continental (the only two airlines that fly in to DAB) send in bigger jets like the 763 or 777 instead of the MD-88, 733 and CRJ that usually flies into DAB.
Thanks

Delta sends 757s and 767s in, but only for charters. The regularly scheduled MadDogs don't change.

They seemed to have done this with a 767 for the spring race - I forget the flight number, but it was not one of the 9xxx (charter) flights. I had my scanner on listing to DAB tower a few hours before the race.

The cool thing was after the race, this DL 767 was allowed to pass about 30 private jets on the taxiway to takeoff.

Yeah...they do send in the larger jets....some other airlines may also send some aircraft in too. I know US air express once set some props in. I also think that Delta did have a scheduled 767 in during the race in February. I could be wrong. Sometimes it is tough to tell what is charter and what is not....but they were scheuled.

Yep, Delta charters 757-200's and 767-300ER's into DAB for the Daytona 500 in February. But on regular days they fly the MD-88's into DAB.
