Southeast Airlines

Tue Jul 03, 2001 6:59 am

I went through the search mode to see if anyone else had asked this question recently (and found no topics.)

A few months ago I saw Southeast Airlines in Atlanta. They had old DC-9's but a very nice livery.

Are they still around?
What is the story about them?
Where do they fly?

Thanks in advance for any help.

They were a "scheduled" charter service per se, flying to Tampa and one point north of Atlanta, something tells me it was in North Carolina.. but i'm not sure.

I have seen them at RDU once before but I don't think it was scheduled service. They were at a Midway gate. I am not sure but I thought Southeast flew out of Charlotte but went out of business or moved due to low load factors. It is a nice looking DC-9. The time I saw it at RDU I was walking through the terminal and I thought I had visions of the old National Airlines because of the simular logo on the tail. I had to stay a little longer that day to watch it take off.

Southeast has tried scheduled service out of ATL and CLT to CUN, FLL, and MCO. They were also operating a shuttle type service out of an airport in VA. They have mainly been a charter airline doing work for FunJet Vacations and others. When they were flying scheduled service out of ATL, they even had a sign at the airport for which terminal they had their check in at. I even saw an ad for them on t.v. I know they have a website, http://www.jetsoutheast.com but am unsure if it still works.

I see Southeast DC-9's twice-a-week at MSY. They operate MSY-CUN charter flights on Thursdays and Sundays for Vacation Express. The plane gets to MSY around 1230pm and leaves for CUN around 145pm. They use gate C5. It's nice to see the "Sun King" logo back at MSY, where National had a sizeable operation.

According to the Charlotte Airport website, they have scheduled service there twice a day..... I think.... I found a news article on them once.

Here's one:
http://charlotte.bcentral.com/charlotte/stories/2000/09/18/weekinbiz.html

And another:

The last time I had checked their website was back in January. The sign for them on the access road to the terminal has been removed also, so perhaps they've dropped scheduled service out of ATL.
