"Just Planes" Kai Tak Video

Wed Jul 04, 2001 4:25 am

Does anyone have more info on the Part 1 or part 2 video of the Kai Tak series? Which one should I order? Is one better than the other? (More spectacular landings)? What exactly is on this video? The video states it's 120min long, i was wondering if it's 120 minutes of landings? That would be cool. Does anyone have this video that they want to sell??

Thanks.

i have Just Planes Video 29 (1997) Kai Tak... Its pretty good if I do say so myself... Only thing is its about 85% landings, and it does get kind of boring... Then it shows some planes taking off on 31... the camera guy is behind the planes, and not at the observ. deck.. grrrr!!  Angry But it does have 1 747SP KAL and 1 747-200 Evergreen taking off in front of them... and they sound AWESOME... has the be the 2 best sounding planes... but back to the video, its taped on a VHS camera, not high quality, but its satisfying.. i dont know about you but i like to see the planes take off, from the, front, not the back... the sound is half the fun... Im still bitter about the location  Wink/being sarcastic .... know of any good take off videos at Kai Tak?

I have part 2 of Kai Tak, I cant remember what year it was as it is not on me at the moment, but as AA61hvy says it gets a bet repetitive. Although there still is some AWESOME shots of the plane turning from checkerboard onto finals! except for the annoying tennis courts in the background, which you can hear most of.

I have part 1, I was a little disappointed. It starts out with the cool checkerboard landings, but yes there is that annoying tenniscourt.

It seems a little bit old too, Cathay was just starting to get its A330s and A340s, no 777s in the whole video for 777 fans and very few 330s or 340s. Cathay was still flying L1011s regularly then and most of the 747s were in old colors.

For the most part, the video was taken right at the airport and did not show a lot of the spectacular landings in which I was hoping to see.

I have KaiTak - The Last Day which I think is excellent especially for a heavy plane buff. Excellent landing views!!! The begining starts of with an aproach to KaiTak from the passenger view slightly fore of the wing. A bunch of heavy landings in the middle, then segways into a cockpit-view landing and then an introduction to the new ChepLapKok airport. I really like it!

I would like to build my collection of tapes so if you're interested I'll trade you for it. My email is in my profile.

Hey guys, where can I order that video? Can I order it online? I'm in Singapore, so would there be any suitable shop which would sell it?

I had a video "Kai Tak: The final approach". It's more about Cathay Pacific than Kai Tak, with only 1 landing, which made me really dissapointed. I would really appreciate someone telling me how to go about ordering this particular video

In case you guys might be interested.......Here are some additional links to some pretty good Kai Tak videos (not as good as JP's products, I don't think, but not bad. Especially the Avion 1998 tape. That one is very good. Lots of close-up landings there). ..........

Does anyone know what video has the most take offs? (HKG) or the most shots when the camera person is in front of the planes, as opposed to watching it take off from behind?

Most HKG Takeoffs.....

Fri Jul 06, 2001 12:51 pm

Hi again American Airlines Flight 61 Heavy (your first flight? Cities? DC-10 possibly?) .............

In addition to the 2 I've listed above....the following Hong Kong video is listed as the one from JP with the most takeoffs (although I'm uncertain as to the camera locations on that one)........

Some Good Loud Ones!

Fri Jul 06, 2001 1:27 pm

Greetings TRICKIJEDI (cool username you've got ...... Do you know "Yoda" personally?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy) ...........

Glad I could advise you.

In case you collectors are interested, here are some more good ones to get. These would be recommended to AA61HVY, as well, who says he likes lots of SOUND (i.e. LOUD takeoffs/landings). I totally agree: the louder the better. And these volumes offer this ......
