Its so sad to see the infamous 1011 dissapear, what a cool a/c,i grew up watching eastern's L-1011's take off
and land out sju in the 70's.Then deltas and twa in and out all day, know its almost history. But my hopes are that freighters remain for a while. Now all i see out of lax is ATA,and delta which has one flt in the morning.Kallita were flying them to lax but so much for that.Long live the 1011!!!!!

I saw N737D parked at concourse T on Wednesday (or was it Monday?) night, probably one of the last times she ever pulled into the terminal there. *sniff*

I took my last ride on 728 in May. Still rode nice, looked like hell on the exterior. I wish they would have the exterior cleaners buff the paint before the last flight. That will never happen.

At the risk of blowing it for myself, it looks like the last flight with seats may be 1444 on 7/31 MCO-ATL. Seats are getting scarce though.

that will be ATA (which is a major carrier too, now) in 5+ yrs because the -500's will be around for a while.

Ship 727 I believe If I read the registraton correctly Sits at atlantic city International (Pomona field) I have a picture but I dont think I can post it due to quality. Next to that odly enough is an United 747SP. Both aircraft are owned by the FAA which operates a tech center there.

I really like to fly new planes, I always think something will go wrong on an old plane, and they never seem to fly as well either. I've never flown an L1011, can someone please tell me what is so good about it? What makes it better than most planes to fly on?

Absolutely nothing. The L1011 was a bitch to ride on at the best of times. The old joke was that L1011 stood for "Late 10 of 11 times" and she earned the monikers "Try To Start" and "Tritanic". The 2-5-2 seating configuration was atrociously uncomfortable on long flights.

But she represents memories for a lot of people. Maybe the youngsters dont appreciate that yet, but thats all the better for the oldtimers. Let the folks who truly appreciate these birds give them the sendoff they deserve. The rest of you can enjoy your 767-400s.

I have many fond memories of these great birds. Lockheed did a great job developing these aircraft and manufacturing them (with the sole exception of the engine choice = none). I flew DL 1011s dozens of time across the Atlantic from FRA to ATL and back. I will surely miss them...

If only they would have kept the PBI run for the last day, then my airport would have the last flight. We'll settle with 3rd place behind the 2 Orlando flights. The 31st it is changed to a 757. Our last flight comes in at 7:30pm, hopefully it won't be too dark out.
Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky.

Well I'm sad, didn't get a chance to say goodbye at LAX! Apparently, DL stopped flying them in there a little while back. Does anyone know when the last DL flight to LAX was? When's 738 being retired? *sniff*

At FLL on the 8th right before 740 switch from Ground to Tower, The girl said.

"Good luck Delta 740 you'll be missed"

It brought a tear to my eye.
