Airbus A380-700R Comparable To Boeing 747SP?

Sun Jul 08, 2001 6:26 am

Despite the fact that the first flight of the 747SP took place more than 25 years ago, the specifications of this aircraft still look very impressive. The Mmo of Mach 0.92 is unmatched and the range of nearly 14,000 km can compete with the longest range airliners of today. But most remarkable to me is the takeoff field length of just 2,330 m.

Is the proposed Airbus A380-700 (A3XX-50R) with shortened fuselage and increased range expected to have similar characteristics, especially in case of takeoff-performance and field length? The concept seems to be the same: A shorter airplane with the same wingspan as the base aircraft and the same engines that have to be powerful enough for the increased MTOW of the A380-800 and -900.

Thanks in advance

A380-700, 800, and 900?? Now why isn't Airbus starting with series 100 or 200 like everyone else?
