Incident During Push Back At FRA

Mon Jul 09, 2001 4:01 am

Again, a 777 of UA collided with a LH plane during push back, german press agency dpa reports. A wing of the 777 hit the tail of the other aircraft. Reportedly no one was hurt during this incident.

Jeez, I knew LH and UA were close partners in Star-Alliance, but I didn't know they were THAT close...

Does United have their own ramp at FRA or is it handled by LH.

I know UA does not use wing walkers wich is dangerous does LH? And if so do either of the carriers have plans to change this policy.

thanks

OUCH! That is reminiscent of a similar event in POS back in 1993 when a TriStar of BWIA being pushed back struck another (wing-tail contact).

Star Alliance seems to be uncomfortably close these days...

UA is handeld at Terminal 1, where all Star Alliance flights are handelt. Responsible for bush back is the airport, that means Fraport AG.

I recently did some flying out of CGN and OSL at night. I don't remember seeing wing walkers the whole week....in the states you almost always have them. One night at Cologne we were ready to leave but another plane was sort of in our way. The captain, rather impatiently I think, decided to go for it and we didn't have any wing walkers. Our right wing got a pretty good look at an Electra nose....much closer than what I'm used to and I guess I should have just told the captain to stop unless we had a wing walker. These things are usually blamed on the flight crew unless you are being pushed back.

I think every airport should have strict rules on wing walkers to protect all peopl(pax/emp) and property.

I saw this get towed past the terraces the other day after the incident. The starboard elevator was a bit damaged (Not repairable). A new elevator should pretty much fix it, as I did not see any other visible damage.

The tail section of the LH 747 that was hit by UA 777 at IAD in June is still sitting behind LH Cargo building.

Well I was at FRA today but I wasn't lucky enough to see either D-AIAX nor the UA 777. Has the triple seven been flown back home or will it be repaired in FRA by Lufthansa? Is the 747-400 that had the accident @ IAD back to service?
